Lorna Joan Peuker

Joan was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on June 4th, 1932, to William Irvin Lucas and Lorna Dean Lucas. Joan grew up and went to school in Highland, Kansas and graduated from Highland High School in the spring of 1950. After her high school graduation, Joan marred the love of her life, Laurence Vernon Peuker of Horton, Kansas on October 8, 1950.

Joan worked for over 40 years at Southwestern Bell Telephone where she made many lifetime friends. Joan loved and lived for spending time with family and friends. She was a long-time member of the Gashland United Methodist Church located in Kansas City, Missouri where she taught Sunday School for 23 years. Joan was an avid reader and loved to travel. She enjoyed summer vacations with her family frequently going to beautiful national parks and taking cruises to scenic locations around the world in retirement.

Joan was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a proud supporter of the International Order of Job’s Daughters and Bethel #37, where she made forever friends. Joan never met a stranger. Her smile and infectious laugh warmed rooms and filled the hearts of so many. She will be greatly missed by her family and all the lives she touched.

Joan was preceded in death by her father and mother William Irvin Lucas and Lorna Dean Lucas, husband Laurence Vernon Peuker and son Dennis Ray Peuker. She is survived by her son Laurence Dean Peuker and daughter-in-law Julie Peuker of Platte City, Missouri and daughter Caroline Lucille Schmidt, son-in-law Jeffrey Lee Schmidt and granddaughter Sadie Grace Schmidt, of Wildwood, Missouri.

Visitation will be held at White Chapel Funeral Home (6600 NE Antioch Rd. Gladstone, Missouri 64119) on Saturday September 7th from 10:30 a.m.-12 noon with funeral, internment, and reception to follow.

In lieu of flower, donations can be made to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
