
Marian Frances Woodruff, 96, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2017, at the Sharon Lane Nursing home in Shawnee, Kansas. Marian was born on September 20, 1920, on a farm in Lupus, Moniteau, Missouri. She was the eleventh child of twelve children born to William Jackson “Jack” Garrett (son of Abner Greenwood Garrett and Phoebe Elizabeth Swinney) and Annie Lee Cheatham (daughter of John Boswell Cheatham and Virginia Bruce). Marian leaves behind five children, Helen (Bill) Potter Helvey of Overland Park, KS; William (Vicki) Woodruff of Tipton, MO; Carolyn (Charlie) Woodruff Mejia, Charlotte Woodruff Sims, and Donald (Kathy) Woodruff all of Kansas City, MO; nineteen grandchildren, Anna (Oscar Siena) Osnower and Janet (Martin) Osnower Skrotski of Bakersfield, CA; Edward (Anita) Osnower of Tuscaloosa, AL; Beverly (Todd) Smith Champion of Madison, AL; Arthur (Julie) Smith of Northport, AL; Mark (Desiree) Isaacs of Dacono, CO; Travis (Katie) Mejia of Mansfield, TX; Hunter Mejia of Rolette, TX; Donald Merrill of Kansas City, MO; John (Luana) Woodruff of Eldon, MO; Tiffany (Josh) Woodruff Henry of Tipton, MO; Christopher Woodruff; Jennifer Dukes Carr of California, MO; Jessica (Greg) Dukes McClure of Appleton City, MO; Shauna Dukes of Jefferson City, MO; James Woodruff of Platte City, MO; Steven Woodruff of Kansas City, MO; Gayle (Danny) Burk Fulks of Kansas City, KS; and Christina (David) Losensky Anderson of Gulfport, MS; thirty great grandchildren and ten great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband John DeWayne Woodruff, six brothers (Ralph, George, Oliver, John Boswell, Wallace and Tom Garrett), five sisters (Phoebe Garrett Seifert, Annie Garrett Stevens, Ruth Garrett Bieri, Eunice Garrett Lebbing, and Edna Emma Garrett), and her daughter Virginia Potter Osnower Smith. Marian loved family, cooking, quilting, gardening, and flowers. She was famous for her starts of Christmas cactus and African violets. She was known by “Grandma” to lots of children she babysat for over the years. She will be greatly missed by all who have known her kindness. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2017, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 N. E. Antioch Road, Gladstone, MO. Funeral will be Wednesday, February 1, 2017, 1:00 p.m., also at White Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Synergy House.
