Mary Sue Egner

Mrs. Mary Sue Egner, age 84, of Kansas City, MO passed away peacefully on August 5, 2022. Mary, or as her family and friends knew her, Sue, was born on June 16, 1938, to William Herbert and Minnie Mae Thompson in Yell County, Arkansas. She was one of 13 children. Sue attended Scott High School, where she played basketball, excelled in her studies, and graduated in 1956. Sue met and married the love of her life Clayton William Egner later that year and celebrated 65 years of marriage in November 2021. Clayton and Sue had 4 children, Bill Egner (Su), Sherrie Horvat (Jim), Terrie Gash (John), and Melissa McCune (Patrick), five grandchildren and five great grandchildren that will miss her dearly.

Sue and Clay liked to travel and went on road trips frequently. They enjoyed spending time together going on picnics, and occasionally going to the casino In the afternoon. Sue loved reading and watching old westerns.

Sue was happiest spending time with her family, and she was a stay-at-home mom for her kids and many neighborhood kids. She was also always there to take care of her grandchildren as they grew up. The grandchildren and great grandchildren knew her as Nana, a title she was so immensely proud of.

Sue was a fantastic cook, and her homemade hot rolls were legendary and will be missed on special occasions. Sue kept a pristine home and could find a crumb on the floor from the other room. Sue never allowed her kids to jump on the beds or furniture, but when the grandkids came, they were allowed to do whatever they wanted because Nana would not tell them no.

Sue will be missed by her family and friends for the love she so freely gave to everyone she met.

Graveside services will be held for Sue at Newcomer’s White Chapel Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens in Gladstone, MO on Tuesday, August 9 at 10:30am.
