

Mary Jean McCombs was born May 6, 1929 to James Moorehouse and Irene Owen Moorehouse. She was the fourth of twelve children, and grew up in the small community of Lakeside, outside of Joplin, Missouri. At the age of 16 she married local boy Ralph Earl McCombs, a friend of her brothers Chuck and Buck. The two eloped to Reno, NV on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Shortly thereafter they had their first child Ralph Eugene. Mary Jean and Ralph were married for 47 years.
Mary Jean and Ralph loved to travel and being outdoors. The pair had a cabin at the lake that was always full of their families and friends. Mary Jean was an excellent water-skier and fisher- woman. Later on, they had a motorhome and they traveled all over the country, often with friends and family. Mary Jean also enjoyed square dancing and forged many lasting friendships within her square dancing community.
Mary Jean is preceded in death by her husband Ralph Earl; son Ralph Eugene; daughter Susan; brothers James (Buck), Charles (Chuck), Freddie, Jack, Lonny and Roy; sisters Louise, Shirley Ann, Betty and Charlene.
She is survived by grandson Sean, granddaughter Heather; great grandchildren Devin, Aidan, Haley and Avery; sister Helen and many nieces nephews and cousins.
A visitation for Mary will be held Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Newcomer's White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 NE ANTIOCH RD, GLADSTONE, MO 64119. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at White Chapel Cemetery, 6600 NE ANTIOCH RD, GLADSTONE, MO 64119.
