Lanie was born on August 10, 1959, in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, to Laurence and Peggy Dowdell. She arrived with a lifelong partner in fun—her identical twin sister, Melissa “Missy.”
Growing up near a lake, Lanie and Missy enjoyed an adventurous childhood filled with laughter, mischief, and possibly a little too much fun (though Lanie would say it was exactly the right amount). Those early years shaped Lanie’s spirited personality and her love of living life fully.
Lanie built an impressive career as an executive salesperson at Sprint, where her drive and natural ability with people truly shone. She retired after 25 years with Sprint but was never one to sit still for long. She went on to found her own business, which she successfully operated for 20 years.
Above all else, Lanie cherished her family. Her greatest joy in life was her sons, Adam and Tyler Christiansen. She was a fiercely proud mother—her boys’ biggest advocate, supporter, and cheerleader. She also treasured her role as Nana. Lanie poured her heart into her grandchildren, creating memories full of warmth, laughter, and unconditional love.
She is preceded in death by her son, Tyler Christiansen, and her father, Laurence Dowdell.
Lanie is survived by her mother, Peggy Dowdell; sisters, Debbie Alexander (Jimmie) and Melissa Scott (Chuck Doyle); brother, Gregg Dowdell; her son, Adam Christiansen (Monica); grandson, Jacob Christiansen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
For the past twenty years, Lanie was blessed with a loving bonus family. She is survived by her companion, Donald R. Hannah; Don’s children, Blake Fulton (Rachel), Tatum Krenek (Taylor), and Georgi Pleasant (Ryan); and her bonus grandchildren, Veda, Micah, and Sammy Fulton, and Tilly and Townes Krenek. She was excited about the upcoming arrival of Molly Pleasant.
Lanie’s battle with ALS was supported by an extraordinary circle of friends, family, and caregivers. Over the past year, they ensured she was able to remain in her home– the place where she felt most at peace. The family extends a heartfelt thank-you to Phoenix Home Health, Phoenix Hospice, Fonda Hannah, and Jasmine Curry for their devoted care, compassion, and support.
The family is celebrating Lanie’s life privately but deeply appreciates your prayers, support, and kind thoughts during this difficult time.
