
Norma Lee Pickering, 76, of Kansas City, MO passed away May 14, 2016. Norma was born January 7, 1940 and raised in Larned, Kansas. At the age of 14, she met her husband Wilbur on a blind date arranged by her sister Shirley and her future husband, Don, who was a classmate of Wilbur. Wilbur was home on leave from the Marine Corp on their first date. Norma married Wilbur at the age of 17, had her first child at the age of 18. By the time she was 22 she had 3 children. Norma and Wilbur lived in Wichita for 3 years and then moved to Garden City, KS in 1960. They then moved to Vienna, VA in 1975 and then to Parkville, MO in 1977. Wilbur and Norma divorced in 1984. Norma moved to Larned in 1989 and took care of her mother until she passed away. To the delight of her children she returned to the Kansas City area in 1998. Norma and Wilbur remarried in 2001 and lived in Parkville, MO. Norma was preceded in death by her parents Russell and Irene Hampton. Survivors include her husband, Wilbur Pickering; children, Susan (Sherman) Haynes of North Kansas City, MO, William (Tracey) Pickering of Parkville, MO, Julie (Karl) Bodenheimer of Kansas City, MO, Randall (Lisa) Pickering of Tool, TX and Daniel (Nora) Pickering of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Samuel Bodenheimer, Joseph Bodenheimer, David Bodenheimer, Weston Pickering, Julia Pickering, Michael Portel, Randal Portel, Robert Portel, Dylan Pickering, William Pickering and Mario Garcideunas; siblings, Shirley (deceased husband, Don) Abbey of Wichita, KS, Roger Hampton of Joplin, MO, Thomas (Kathleen) Hampton, and Richard (Phyllis) Hampton of Kansas City, KS. Service 11:00am Thursday May 19, 2016 Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment White Chapel Memorial Gardens Gladstone, MO.
