

Norman Morrow (91) of Kansas City, MO, passed away on August 13, 2015. The visitation and service will be held on August 15 at Englewood Baptist Church beginning at 11:00. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at White Chapel Cemetery. Norm was born May 17, 1924 in St. Joseph, MO to Stella Mae (Johns) Morrow and Thomas Morrow. His family moved to Mt. View, MO where he graduated from High School. Norm served in the US Army 8thAir Force, 306th Bombardment Group, 367th Squadron during World War II as a B-17 ball turret aerial gunner, and flew 30 combat missions over enemy occupied Europe. He received the Air Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters and the European-African-Middle Eastern campaign medal with 4 bronze Battle Stars for the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Ardennes campaigns. When he returned from the war to Kansas City, he married the late Alta Marie Lewis on May 10, 1947 and raised three children during their 52 years together. He worked for Kansas City Power & Light as a control operator for 33 years and retired in 1983. During retirement, Norm and Alta also lived in Springfield, MO and Vero Beach, FL. Norm and Alta were charter members of Englewood Baptist Church in Kansas City and South Gate Baptist Church in Springfield, MO. Norm is survived by his wife of 14 years, Sarah (Hays), and his three children, Norman Eugene “Gene” (Cindy) Morrow, M.D. of Falls Church, VA; Judy (Mark) Clough of Parkville, MO, and Kathy (John) VanCleave of Kansas City, MO. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Jason (Laura) Morrow, Jeffrey (Lauren) Morrow, Will Clough, and Susan (Mike) Marquez; three great-grandchildren, Desmond Morrow, Mae Marquez and Ander Marquez; two step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Ryan) Miller and Cristin VanCleave; and two step-great-grandchildren, Paige Miller and John Christian Miller. He is also survived by Sarah’s three children, Mike (Ann) Hays, Nan (Lloyd) Harrison, and Cris (Joyce) Hays; and five grandchildren, Natalie Hays, Leslie (Joe) Biebrich, Kyle Harrison, Ethan Hays, and Camryn Hays. He is also survived by his brother, Fred Morrow, of Kansas City, MO. Norm was preceded in death by his wife, Alta, his brothers Thomas and Frank, and his sister, Stella Kelly. Norm will be remembered for his wry sense of humor, his incessant craving for sugar (whether in sweets or his coffee), his immaculate gardens, and above all, his devotion to his family. The family is grateful for the care teams at Garden Valley Manor and Cross Roads Hospice.
