Born on June 3, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri, Denny was the beloved son of Joseph and Marie Almsberger and younger brother to Joann.
Denny spent his early years in Kansas City before moving to Fairway, Kansas, where he attended school and began his lifelong journey of hard work and determination. At the young age of 13, he started working at Mission Highlands Supermarket in Fairway, where he formed a lifelong friendship with Mike Hoffman and became part of the close-knit Mission Highlands “family.”
After graduating from Shawnee Mission North High School, Denny proudly served his country in the United States Army during the 1960s, stationed in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Following his honorable service, he returned to Mission Highlands Supermarket and married his wife, Robin.
Denny's commitment to self-improvement led him to pursue higher education while working full-time. He earned a master's degree in business finance, which paved the way for a successful career at AT&T. Known for his meticulous attention to detail, Denny excelled in managing large divisions and ensuring every penny was accounted for with precision and dedication.
A devoted father, Denny is survived by his two sons, Scott and Troy, and Troy’s wife, Mary Almsberger. He is also lovingly remembered by his four grandchildren: Jade, Kai, Kira, and Miro as well as nieces and nephews. His family fondly recalls his love for the Lake of the Ozarks, where he spent much of his free time enjoying the outdoors, boating, and “relaxing” by the water. Relaxing for Denny meant fixing, maintaining, painting, mowing, trimming etc.
Denny had a remarkable ability to fix or repair almost anything and took pride in maintaining a neat and organized home. He also had a deep appreciation for nature and loved feeding the birds, vigilantly ensuring that non-birds—such as squirrels and raccoons—did not take advantage of the expensive bird food.
Denny’s steadfast devotion to Coca-Cola was legendary. Despite gentle suggestions about healthier alternatives, he remained unapologetically loyal to his favorite drink, much to the amusement and admiration/concern of those who knew him.
Denny’s hardworking spirit, love for his family, and unique quirks will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
