I played Rugby with Ryan at Tulane. In addition to being a strong athlete, he was smart, introspective, and thoughtful. Love to all of you.

Mcbee!!  I don't remember how many times i yelled your name.sometimes for fun,sometimes just to see how you would respond or to wake you up a little bit. We conquered canada in rugby and stole their gold.we drank in mexican bars.we jumped off cliffs and stayed out all night way too many times to count.you hosted my 18th birthday party,
We did so many unreal things that i literally cant remember all of them.
You were one of the kindest,smartest most loyal of friends I've ever known.i wish we had more memories as adults but life happens and our paths split apart. 
 I will walk with you again someday.

I’ve heard it said, and I believe it to be true, that cousins are your first friends.  As the only children of each of our parents, Ryan and I were first brothers for each other.  Luckily, our mothers lived a block away from each other and I have memories and pictures of us growing up as little babes.  We weren’t always so close physically (the poor kid had to go to Park Hill HS!), but remained close all of our youth.  Schultz mentioned teenage weekends of D&D and Mac & Cheese.  Comic book collecting.  80s martial arts movies.  Jimi Hendrix.  High school parties.  I even remember walking from my house to his, probably 8 miles, in the middle of the night, fully dressed in a ninja costume, and I just climbed up on the roof outside his bedroom window.  I knocked on it.  “What’s up?”  “What are you doing here?”  “I just walked over here.”  “It’s late.”  “Yep . . . you’re asleep?”  “Um, I was.”  “Okay, see you later.”

While I will miss catching up with him when we chat on Facebook or when I get back to KC, I’ll always share some popcorn with him when I watch a comic book movie.  I’ll always tell my kids about him when I see some horrible Jean Claude Van Dam movie on TV.  I’ll always hear him singing along when “Hey Joe” comes on the radio.  He’s always with me.  And if you’re reading this, he’s with you, too.  Thanks for making my life brighter Ryan Pocas.  Thanks for being my brother.  I love you.

Ryan,
I have so many fun memories of high school and shortly after with you in them.  You were likely the smartest person I have ever known, and definitely one of the funniest.  My sharpest memory of you when I look back is when I first got to know you, in Spanish class. We were all working hard, struggling to find the correct answers, you were sleeping with your head down on the desk and would pop your head up to answer, correctly, every time, without any effort. 

You will be missed.  There’s comfort in knowing that you found the peace you were seeking.  May you shine brightly for your family through memories.  



If I tried to share every memory of you, I would fill a library with books.  You were my first real love, and even though we were so young, they were some of the best years of my life. I really never imagined living in a world without you somewhere in it. 

We would lose contact, then find each other again. You made my world a little brighter just knowing you always would be there with a kind word and a sarcastic comment. 

I am heartbroken that you are gone.  I hope that you are finally out of the pain and darkness you have been going through.  I am heartbroken for your mom, who loved you fiercely and unconditionally through the dark and bright times in your life. 

My deepest condolences to your family and all the people who loved you in this world. You were, and are, a beautiful soul. 

To Ryan’s family and friends,
    I was Ryan’s teacher in the gifted program for 3 years at Plaza Middle School.   He was so bright and funny.  Always laid back and positive he was one of the brightest of students I taught.  We then got in contact again though facebook and chatted about books and some of the medical challenges he had faced.   Then a member of his class had her first baby and we both were so excited for her that we even made plans to go see her and the baby.  It was at that time that Covid entered all our lives.  Of course we thought we had time to do it but we didn’t.  Ryan was looking forward to going to  Nebraska to have a surgery that might really improve his medical situation.  He was always so hopeful and positive in his chats.  He was really happy about getting to take part in a family tradition of going to see A Christmas Carol in 2019.  I am so sad.  Bless you Ryan.  

Ryan,   I will never forget the time we spent in high school.  When you told me you cut your hair with the Flowbee in high school then showed me how it works, then at the same time you scarred the daylights out of me with a ferret.  The ferret always got me...

When we were taking our ACT test you were seated near me since our last names are close.  Halfway into the test I look over and you were out cold asleep.    Weeks later when we got our ACT scores back  you told me you  had got a 34 or 35 and finished early and that is why you were sleeping.   



Grandma and Grandpas 50th wedding anniversary. You, David and Chris and I watching Happy Gilmore at least a dozen times in that too short of a weekend. I am not sure any of us had ever laughed that hard in our lives!! Love you cousin, rest easy with the Lord.

Ryan, I remember the good times  in high school we all had with your cousin Dave.  Friday and Saturday nights in Dave's bedroom playing Dungeons and Dragons 2nd Edition, buying 40 tacos from Taco Bell or Dave making 3 pots of mac and cheese, watching Beavis and Butthead and Ren and Stimpy, and staying up all night playing FIFA Soccer on the Sega Genesis.  Cherished memories that Dave and I still talk about sometimes :)  Sure, we were nerds but we had a blast.  Miss ya homie.

Ryan – A Piece of my Heart

You must have been so tired of being here.  You must have been so tired.   You were brave, so very brave.
And now you are gone from here, from this place, from this now.  I miss You, I miss you.
I miss how you say Aunt Lu and touching your hair after a haircut.  I miss your silence And your laughter and that look you get when you know I am teasing you.  I miss you.  
I Think of you happy and smiling and content like when you get extra chicken.  Are you Smiling.  Do our spirits smile somehow?  Your pure light must be so bright.  Happy trails on your new adventure.  You are loved, you are loved.


Oh, Mike...we are so sorry to hear about Ryan. I remember the photo frame you brought to work that showed each school grade and how he changed and grew over the years. It doesn't seem fair or possible that he's not here. Please know we are praying for you and the rest of your family.
