Sheila was known for her fiery spirit, sharp wit, and love of a good time. Born on September 12, 1950, to Wilbert “Tommy” Thompson and Margaret “Maggie” (Evans) Thompson, Sheila learned early on the value of hard work and good humor. Her love for numbers and bookkeeping came naturally, inspired by her parents and her Aunt Rose, who all worked in banking and finance. Sheila proudly carried on that tradition, working as a bookkeeper for many businesses across Kansas City over the years.
Outside of work, Sheila has a passion for flower gardening, cheering on the Chiefs and Royals, cruising in her classic 1979 Mercedes, and cooking for friends and family. She loved spending time at the lake, hanging out at her favorite local pub with close friends, and doting on her beloved pets—Lucy, Fannie, and Blossom. She also gave her time volunteering with the VFW.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother-in-law, Ed Mershon.
Sheila is survived by her longtime partner, Bernie Sears; her sisters, Pamela Mershon and Deborah (Glenn) Hunter; and cherished nieces and nephews.
To celebrate Sheila’s life, friends and family are invited to gather at Tanner’s of Red Bridge (11134 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, Missouri 64114) for a laid-back Celebration of Life – just the way she would’ve wanted on Thursday June 26th from 3-6 PM.
Sheila brought energy and fun to every room she entered. She’ll be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Sheila’s name are suggested to any non-kill animal shelter in the Kansas City area.
