Although I only knew Mr Brenton for a matter of a few months, I was in awe by him. what a wonderful person. I enjoyed his story telling of years gone by., and by all means his joy of playing cards! What a good time we had.. I'm  honored to have known him .

Thurlan and Helen were our neighbors for almost 25 years.  Not only the best ones ever. We spent a lot of time together helping one another with little jobs as they felt like family more than just good friends.  Thurlan and I went to a lot of auctions and garage sales as he was a collector and I did antique shows in surrounding areas.  When we sold our home Thurlan spent days helping my husband, Bob, haul our boxed inventory to a storage faility and Helen prepared our meals for the 4 days of our estate sale.  I know God has taken home the best in the two of them.  Vivian James

Though his death is a sad event I am very heartened that Thurlan had such a long life filled with generations of family.

I first met Thurlan when I was very young â€“ probably no more than age four or five.  This would have been in 1942 or 1943 and I remember him giving me rides on the bumpy wooden floor in carts used to move bolts of cloth.  This was, of course, on the seventh floor of the building at Armour and Iron.

My father, Otto Sherry, started to work in purchasing, at Stern, Slegman, Prins Co. in 1939 after we arrived (from Vienna, Austria) in New York City in January of that year.   It was a Saturday ritual for a number of years that I accompanied my Father to the factory for those exciting, bumpy rides.

My Father left SSP before the move to Gillham Road but he and Thurlan had worked together for quite a few years.  I know that they enjoyed mutual respect and cooperation.

If we jump many years, all the way to the 1960s, I was working with my Father in the piece goods business and had many dealings SSP's purchasing agent!.  Thurlan was always a gentleman and I respected him greatly.  My Father continued to work with Thurlan into the 1980s and I know the relationship was very cordial and that he respected and admired  Thurlan's character.

(I know that during the War Years procuring fabrics ((mostly woolens)) was a serious challenge and that it took the two of them to deal with the difficulties.)

I apologize for the length of this and that so much of it deals with the Sherrys but that is how I came to get to know Thurlan.

I hope you have solace and even pleasure recalling Thurlan's life and his accomplishments.

My heartfelt condolences to all the Brenton Family.  Helen and Thurlan were long time friends of my Grandparents, Ray and Dorothy Wingo what a glorious reunion it must be, as these old friends are once again reunited in paradise.  Prayers to each and every one of you.

We lived next door to Thurlan and Helen for a time and we enjoyed them so much as neighbors.  Loved to sit out on the porch and visit with them.  Thurlan had bought a rose for the people who lived in our house before us and every spring came to talk to me about that rose and how it was doing.  I really loved knowing them and serving in the church with them.  No better neighbors and friends could anyone have than them.  Thurlan is one who will be greatly missed.  He always went to see our son perform in his plays at the high school and I appreciated him for that.
