He was born January 14, 1931, to Thuc Duc Du and Cuong Thi Nguyen in Vientiane, Laos.
Tuong was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather offering strength, wisdom, and unconditional love. He led by example- teaching the value of hard work, honesty, and compassion. He created a home filled with love; to see his children thrive and to honor both the traditions he brought with him and the dreams he found here. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him lots of joy and laughter and he was always a jokester at heart. His proudest accomplishment was seeing his children and grandchildren grow into kind and capable adults.
Tuong was a self-taught tailor in Vietnam while working for the US Embassy as a communication interpreter, speaking and writing five different languages. In 1975, he was relocated to the United States and continued his tailor craft. In 1992 Tuong would open his own business, Tom’s Tailor Shop in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.
Tuong was a KC Chiefs fan and was a loyal and faithful KC Royal’s super fan. Enjoying the two trips to the World Series and all the Super Bowl wins with his family. He was a self-taught cook, loved to cook for his family and friends.
Tuong was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Hoan Du and Trinh Du; and his sister, Thai Du.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Hao Nguyen; his eight children, Thuyhuong Du (Vinh Nguyen), Thuyvan Du-Nguyen (Tung Nguyen), Tuan Du (Thuy Nguyen), Tu Du, Thuy-Trang Du (Dung Khuu), Bich Huyen Sheehan (Peter Sheehan), Bich Hang Huynh (Khuon Huynh), and Khoi Du; eleven grandchildren, Linh (Geoff), Phy (Jessica), Payton, Vu, Thuy Vy, Mya, Katelyn, Viet, Ethan, Nicholas, and Ian; and three great grandchildren, Gemma, Cooper, and Joanna.
