He was born on February 20, 1962, in Oak Hill, Ohio, the son of Cecil Wayne Dennis and Christine Joy (Thacker) Dennis. He graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in Ohio in 1980 and joined the Air Force while finishing his high school diploma. While in the Philippines, he met and married his wife of 42 years, Estrella (Calora) Dennis. They went on to have four children and ten grandchildren. Wayne was also a father and grandfather figure to several families that have close relationships within their church community.
After wrapping up his time in the military, he served as a Utilities Supervisor for the City of Kansas City Water Department for 29 years until he retired in December of 2020.
His children and grandchildren will remember him as a kind, caring person who was very generous and understanding as a father and a grandfather who would support them to build their own points of view to forge their own path in life. He had an exceptional sense of humor which left a lot of room for the “inside jokes” among his family, friends or co-workers. Wayne was very accomplished within his career at the Water Department, mentoring many throughout that time by sharing his knowledge and expertise, helping those that wanted to move up in their careers as well.
Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Dennis; and his son, Wayne Dennis Jr.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Estrella Dennis of the home in Kansas City, Missouri; his daughter-in-law, Marleen Dennis; grandson, Raymond of Independence, Missouri; his son, William Dennis (Isis); grandchildren, Zach, Dreyvin and Raelynn if Kansas City, Missouri; his son, Wesley Dennis (Olivia); grandchildren, Wyatt, Warren, Aria, and Annabelle of Kansas City, Missouri; his daughter, Angela Joy Goodwin (Victor); granddaughter, Estrella Joy of Kansas City, Missouri; his mother, Christine West of Hardy, Kentucky; his step-mother, Pauline Dennis of Bucyrus, Ohio; his brother, Mark Dennis of Dorton, Kentucky; his brother, Gregg Dennis of Kansas City, Missouri; and many more family and loved ones too numerous to mention.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 31, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, with a Celebration of Life beginning at 5:00 PM, at White Chapel Funeral Home, 6600 N.E. Antioch Road, Gladstone, Missouri, 64119. A private military graveside service will be held in Leavenworth, Kansas.
