She was a graduate of Warwick Veterans Memorial High School and the Carnegie Institute in Boston. She worked as a phlebotomist at the Lahey clinic in Boston for a few years before marrying the love of her life Robert Henry Hylander in 1956. Jen and Bob met at a church picnic when she was 15 and they were married for 51 years. They enjoyed life to the fullest traveling, boating and entertaining, these being some of their most favorite activities. Jen was the ultimate entertainer hosting weekly dinner parties with friends and serving fresh caught Bluefish that nobody really liked. She loved to snow and water ski, play tennis, swim in the ocean, traveling, flowers, spending time with friends and loved ones, summers at Lake Winnipesaukee and the cottage in Westerly, RI. She was a travel agent for 25 years for the Myles Travel Agency and enjoyed “doing research” all over the world. In her spare time, she studied, went to school and became a CT State Floral judge. After several years of training, she also became a Master Judge for the National Council of Federated Garden Clubs. She was a member of multiple garden clubs in Glastonbury and Rhode Island. Jen was also very active in church. She was excellent at keeping up with her friendships near and far over the years. Jen was fluent in Swedish and so proud of her Swedish heritage, always making sure to pass along the traditions to her children.
She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family; Kenneth Hylander and his wife Virginia along with their two sons, Jamison and his wife Theresa and Jared Hylander ; Kirsten Hylander Paluska and her husband Kirk along with their two daughters Norell and Annika Paluska.
