Ruby (Brown) Jordan, 84, a longtime resident of Glastonbury, died on December 27th in Holyoke, MA. She was a devoted wife of the late Donald J. Jordan. Born in Auburn, Maine, she lived in Glastonbury from 1959 to 2007. Ruby was an honor student at her high school in Hamden, CT and also graduated with honors in the premed program of the University of Connecticut. She was employed as a secretary at Winchester Repeating Arms and Pratt and Whitney. She was accepted to the Columbia School of Nursing in New York City but chose instead to marry Donald, a widowed engineer for whom she had worked at Pratt and Whitney. She was an active markswoman and duckpin bowler. She is especially appreciated by her family for being a warm mother to all her children including the two step-children she inherited upon her marriage to Donald, and for always fostering a warm family environment. In addition to bowling, her favorite activities included summers with her family at the family cottage in Mystic, flower gardening, and reading poetry. Her sense of humor easily matched that of her husband and always added to the family fun. She is survived by two sons, Mathew Jordan of Troutman, NC and Peter Jordan of Northampton, MA; two step-children, Lucy Jordan of Salt Lake City, UT and Donald Jordan of Lenox, MA; nine grandchildren; a sister Ruth Fredericks of Wallingford, CT; a brother, Carl Brown of Glastonbury, CT; and two nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Ella (Brown) Susmann.
Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation period on Saturday, January 21st from 10:30-11AM, followed with a memorial service to be held in her honor at 11AM at the Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Tnpk., Glastonbury, CT. 06033. Burial will be held in the spring at Green Cemetery, Glastonbury. A luncheon will be served at The Gallery Banquet Hall for all who attend Ruby's service.
