Arturo Monje Sr, known to his family and friends by "Tury" "El Monje" and "The General", 58 years old entered into heaven on January 12, 2021, peacefully in his home with his family. Arturo was a native Arizonan, born in Douglas on September 19, 1962 to Jose Monje and Dolores (Moreno) Monje the only baby boy, and the youngest of five children. Tury grew up in Douglas and attended Douglas High School. He married his high school sweetheart and together they had three boys. As time went on, Tury and Elizabeth decided to separate, but remained friends to co-parent their children. He met and married his love of twenty years, Teresa, who brought two children of her own. With their blended family, Tury and Teresa were married and had one more child together, and remained loyal until Tury was called to heaven.
As a child Tury loved the outdoors. He loved to play at school and was on the middle school football team. As he grew he took odd jobs to help his family with the bills, while trying to raise his children. When Tury was about 43, he took a job with a bussing company. It wasn't long until he became the CEO of Tufesa USA bussing for almost sixteen years, where he got his nickname of "The General."
Arturo was an old spirit. He loved old cars and loved to cruise in low-riders while listening to his favorite 50's and 60's music. He also loved the outdoors, any bodies of water, as well as traveling. He was a Cardinals fan and he couldn't wait to see them play. He had his own t-shirt with his name "Monje #14". Some people thought he was a Diamondback's fan, but he didn’t like baseball as much as he liked football. He loved all sports that were associated with Arizona and would attend any games that he could get tickets to, including; Cardinals, Diamondback's, Suns and The Mercury. He was a faithful man and attended The Vineyard Church with his family.
Arturo was a very loved man. His heart was his family and children and he had many very close personal friends. He was kind, thoughtful, and very generous.
He leaves behind his wife Teresa; his children Francisco "Andy" Monje, Joshua "Tony" Monje, Patricia Valdez, Roberto Rodriguez, and Alissa Monje; his mother-in-law Rosa “Rosy” Rodriguez and his only grandchild Sophia Valdez; special close friends Bliss, Robert's fiancé', Buki, Ruben Serrato, Tene, Miguelito, and Ferni; and many many other people, such as family from Mexico - Nacozari, Hermosillo, Obregon, Nayarit, and our family from Douglas and friends from work. He loved all of his family very much. A special thank you to the Luna family.
