

Bruce Ken Hirose, a lifelong Arizona resident, passed away peacefully in Phoenix, Arizona on April 20, 2026, at the age of 82. He was born on February 20, 1944, in Phoenix, where he spent his entire life building meaningful relationships and leaving a lasting impact on those around him.
Bruce was a dedicated educator who served as a teacher in the Cartwright School District at the Justin Spitalny school for a few years. He then went on to Frank Borman Jr. High school where he taught math. He also coached girls volleyball and basketball. He was deeply respected and admired by his students, who appreciated not only his intelligence and methodical teaching style, but also his patience, fairness, and quiet encouragement. Teaching was more than a profession to Bruce—it was a way to guide and inspire others, and he did so with humility and care.
He earned his bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University and went on to receive his master’s degree from Northern Arizona University where he specified his studies to elementary education, reflecting his lifelong commitment to learning and growth.
Bruce was a man of steady character—mature, wise, calm, and intuitive. He lived simply and genuinely, always treating others with kindness and generosity. He had a quiet presence, yet was deeply respected and liked by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Outside of his career, Bruce had a passion for playing pool, a hobby he pursued for decades beginning in the 1980s. He was not only dedicated to the game, but also highly skilled, earning admiration from fellow players. He also enjoyed trips to Las Vegas with friends, where he celebrated birthdays and spent time enjoying good company and a bit of gambling. Bruce also was part owner of a profound bar, Knobbys Lounge, where he was fond of spending his time.
Above all, Bruce valued family. He cherished family dinners, gatherings, and the simple joy of being together. He shared a close bond with his sister Mary, with whom he lived for many years.
Bruce is survived by his siblings: Doris Hirose Asano, widow of Yoneo Asano; Mary Hirose; and Larry Hirose and his wife Sue Hirose. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eiki Hirose, who passed in January 1981, and Shigeno Hirose, who passed in January 1998. He was also preceded in death by his older brother Paul Hirose in September 1973.
He was a beloved uncle to two nephews and one niece, and a proud great-uncle to two great-nephews and three great-nieces, all of whom he loved dearly.
Bruce’s life was defined by quiet strength, kindness, and integrity. His legacy lives on in the countless students he taught, the friendships he nurtured, and the family he held close. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
