Born on July 19, 1932, Carol was the daughter of Herbert and Harriette Waldbusser and was raised on Long Island, New York. In 1951, she met Thomas Sweeney Jr., whom she married in 1952. In 1966, Thomas’s career brought them to Phoenix, Arizona, where Carol made her home for the next fifty years before relocating to Spring Creek, Nevada.
Carol devoted herself to raising her four children and found great fulfillment in her role as a homemaker. She was deeply involved in her community through volunteer work with the Boy Scouts of America, the GUHS District chapter of the Arizona Association for Children with Learning Disabilities, St. Louis the King Catholic Church, and the Helen Drake Senior Center. A gifted quilter and seamstress, Carol was also a lifelong learner who embraced creativity and service throughout her life.
She is survived by three of her children: Valerie Robles, Herb Sweeney, and Scott Sweeney; as well as 22 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-granddaughters, with two more expected. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Sweeney Jr., and her son, Keith Sweeney.
Carol’s legacy lives on through the many generations of family she nurtured and inspired. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
