Carolyn Jean Gambrel (Maple), age 86, passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born on November 22, 1939, in Decatur, Illinois, and lived a life firmly rooted in faith, love, and service to others.
A devoted Christian, Carolyn allowed her faith to guide every part of her life. She was fun-loving and adventurous, nurturing and caring, and deeply known for her kindness, generosity, wisdom, and integrity. She often reassured those around her with one of her favorite sayings, “It will all come out in the wash,” reflecting her calm spirit and trust in God’s plan. Another guiding belief she lived by was, “What is to be is up to me,” encouraging responsibility, hard work, and faith put into action.
Carolyn found joy in sewing, crafts, puzzles, reading, watching movies, and playing games—simple pleasures that became cherished moments shared with family and friends. She was especially known for helping others, always offering compassion, encouragement, and unconditional love.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Lee Gambrel, who passed away in 2005, and her cherished son, David, who passed away in 2018. We take comfort in knowing that Carolyn is now reunited with them in Heaven.
She is lovingly survived by her children, Lynne, Richard, and Billie; and her treasured grandchildren, Greg, Nychole, Mande, Cari, Kayte, Ricky, Josh, Sabrina, Chris, and William. She was a devoted mother and grandmother whose love and guidance will continue to shape her family for generations.
Carolyn Jean Gambrel will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Her legacy of faith, compassion, and service lives on, and her family rejoices in knowing she is now at peace, welcomed home into the loving arms of her Lord.
