

Major Dale Lloyd Young, USAF (Ret.), passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025, in Glendale, Arizona, at the age of 90. Dale was married to Latricia (Pat) Owens Young for 64 years. They were devoted to each other. He was a doting parent, grandparent and great-grandparent who valued family above all else.
Born on February 22, 1935, Dale graduated from Shipley High School and later attended DeVry University. His distinguished military career began with the United States Air Force, where he served as both a pilot and navigator. As a C-124 navigator, he participated in Operation Deep Freeze from November 1955 to April 1956, supporting scientific expeditions to Antarctica. In recognition of his contributions during the 1956–57 season, establishing the South Pole Station, Young Glacier was named in his honor.
On February 11, 1961, Dale married Latricia “Pat” Owens in Greenville, South Carolina. Together, they traveled the world and built lasting friendships throughout his Air Force service. As an F-4 pilot during the Vietnam War, Dale was awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross for his valor on May 10, 1966. His career continued with assignments in Germany flying the F-4, Alabama as a T-37 Instructor Pilot at Craig AFB, and Korea as Squadron Commander of an OV-10 unit. He concluded his service at Luke AFB in Arizona as the Chief of Safety.
Following retirement from the Air Force, Dale earned an Electrical Engineering degree from DeVry University and worked for Sperry Flight Systems before retiring again from aeronautical sales.
He is survived by his beloved wife Pat; daughters Renee Young Burke (Daniel Francis Burke) and Cheryl Helen Albright (Joe Todd Albright); grandchildren Joe Todd (J.T.) Albright Jr. (Gabriella Albright), Lara Albright Yost (Luke Yost), Garrett Thomas Albright, Charlotte Young Burke, and Daniel Francis (D.J.) Burke Jr. (Kyla Burke); great-grandchildren Ava June Albright, Ruby Reese Yost, and Camille Faye Albright. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elva Emerson and Lloyd Young, and sisters, Evelyn Young Thomas and Dorothy Young Alexander Rich.
Dale enjoyed skeet shooting, racquetball, squash, handball, golf, and sports throughout his life. He was an avid fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Cardinals. But his true passion was his family and friends. He considered his friends part of his family. His impact on our lives will live on forever
A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 4:00 p.m. at Chapel of the Chimes, 7924 N 59th Avenue, Glendale, AZ 85301.
