When I was a teenager, the Bickle’s home was one of my favorite places to be. Whether we were gathered there for Bible studies, movies, or parties (they hosted a surprise party for my 16th birthday), we were always welcomed and treated with great love and acceptance. Don was a fixture, often parked in a corner recliner that leaned toward the right, he was always ready to greet us with a warm smile and quiet words of encouragement. I remember clearly one night after Bible study when I was 15. Don pulled me aside, complimented me on my Biblical knowledge and devotion, and asked, “why haven’t you been baptized?” I spent that night in tears, thinking about my reasons, my fears and my salvation. The next day, I was baptized. God bless Don for his quiet evangelism, and God bless Jerry, Mike and Tim  for always making me feel like part of the family.

Growing up with Mike and Tim And Jeannie, I had many opportunities to spend time at the Bickle's home.   Don and Jerry always had their home open to the kids from church or from camp and we had wonderful times there.  As someone who is very shy and quiet herself,  I always got along great with Don!  He was so nice to me and I always enjoyed talking to him.   The Bickle family means so much to all of us,  and I pray that someday the wonderful memories of Don will be able to flood out the pain of the last few years,  until we all meet again in Heaven. First met Don and Jerry with Ken Marrs, my brother-in-law, who was preaching for them and several families at the time. We went dove hunting that day with Tim , Mike and Don . Good memories.

My memory of Don is him being a very gentle soul . Gentleness is a virtue and Don  undoubtably influenced those he was around. No body to continue that legacy better than Jerry!

Always enjoyed visiting with Don after services. A group would usually congregate on the south side of the building while waiting on our spouses. Learned a good deal about the parts industry. When Don's health prevented him from attending services, I thoroughly missed seeing Don as well as simply "catching-up". 

May God extend pease of mind to Don's family.

I never had the blessing of knowing Donald myself, but my family and I have been blessed with knowing one of his sons, Mike, and his family. Just from seeing what God fearing men his son and grandson, Jed, are I am sure he was also a great God fearing man. Jeannie also always spoke so lovingly of him.

 The pain from this world is finally over. He can now rest in peace until we can all meet again with our Lord and Savior. We send many prayers and a lot of love from Martinez Church of Christ. 

No memory to share but lots of love to share for the Bickle family at this time.  Although we did not get to know, Don, we have been drawn in by the love of Mike and Jeanne.  Mike you have warmed our hearts and shown us your care and concern for others.  We want you to know you are in our thoughts and prayers especially in this difficult time. Jerry, I don't have a specific memory of Don to share, but I do know without a doubt that he was cared for as lovingly and as any man could be. You are such a special lady and your unwavering love, devotion, and attention to Don over the past few years has been a stirring inspiration to me. May God bless your family with comfort and flood your minds with sweet memories. 


I realized it really is a small world when I was talking to Don after church one day.    I found that he worked for my aunt when he was a kid when living in Las Cruces NM.  Don was always friendly and cheerful.  Nice to be around.
