Gary Brent Berschauer, age 80, of Phoenix, Arizona went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, June 26, 2020. He was born on January 14, 1940, in Wichita, Kansas, to Ruth (Gunter) Berschauer and Emanuel Berschauer.
Gary moved to Arizona in April of 1961 and a few short months later he met the love of his life Ms. Doris Avery. Gary was drafted into the United States Army in May of 1963 and after graduating boot camp while on leave he returned to Arizona and he and Doris went to Las Vegas where they were married at the Little Church of the West on July 27, 1963. Gary was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska from 1963-1965. After serving in the military Gary worked as an auto mechanic for over 40 years for various companies, and he delivered beauty supplies for Armstrong McCall for over 20 years.
Gary’s hobbies included old cars, playing golf, and karaoke. Gary and Doris owned a 1953 Allstate car (Ollie) that was in many car shows and a parade since 1969. Gary served as Vice President of the VMCCA Car Club and attended national car meets in various states. Gary was a member of the American Legion for over 30 years. Gary’s love for country music brought him to another passionate hobby, singing karaoke that lasted more than 20 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald Berschauer, sister Carol Greer (Berschauer). Gary is survived by his spouse of 57 years, Doris Elaine Berschauer, and numerous nieces and nephews.
