Jack was a fun-loving rambunctious boy, one of five children, who filled his early years with sports, outdoor adventures and playful mischief. He especially enjoyed teasing his sisters and kept this mother on her toes. Jack attended Alhambra High School where he continued his love of athletics, playing football, baseball and basketball. He was crowned Homecoming King and was known as the life of every party.
Jack proudly served in the United States Air Force Reserves for six years. He married his High School sweetheart, Jillanna Creed, and together they had two daughters, April Joy and Melody Lyn.
Later, Jack built a successful business with his brother Larry and good friend Bill Jenkins, founding LBJ Food Service, and spent the remainder of his career in the food service industry. He later married Judy Myrick and gained two sons Tony and Travis. This led him into his passion for coaching football and he was known for his signature sayings: “get in the hitting position,” “give everything you do 100%,”and his favorite, “strong like bull”.
Among Jack’s greatest joys were spending time with his grandchildren, who brought him endless happiness. Later in life, he met the woman who held his heart until his final days, Tanya Goode. Together, they shared many wonderful years golfing, camping and enjoying the “mad dog stroll”.
Jack will always be remembered for his vibrant spirit, strong work ethic, generosity and his warm, dimpled smile that could light up any room. His legacy of love, laughter and determination will live on in all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughters April Taylor and Melody Slamka; his sons-in-law Tim Taylor and John Slamka; his stepsons and their wives Tony and Anahi Capanna and Travis and Kerry Myrick; and his beloved grandchildren Emma and Kate Taylor; Sydney and Carter Slamka; Catalina and Vito Capanna; Travis, Elea, Tommy, and Lizzy Jo Myrick.
He is also survived by his brother and his sister-in-law, Larry and Barb Yancy, his sisters and their husbands, Joyce and Ron Hatch and Judy and Dan Goodchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Susan Yancy.
