James Pangelinan Aflleje, known as "Jimmy" to close friends and family, passed away on March 13, 2022 at the age of 75 in his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. While working an unscheduled shift at the Base Exchange on Luke Air Force Base March 6, 2022 he suffered a traumatic brain injury. Upon being transferred to a local hospital, an emergency craniotomy was performed. The surgery was unsuccessful and the bleeding and swelling could not be stopped. Despite the pain, James came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
As a child, James proclaimed that his goal was to become a Soldier when he grew up. This dream was fulfilled when he enlisted in the United States Army in 1966 in support of the Vietnam War. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for his meritorious service and was honorably discharged in 1985.
James met his wife, Kim, while serving six combat tours in Vietnam. Together, they had four children: James, Konnie Lynn, William and Michael. He is survived by his wife, children, nine grandchildren and two sisters, June and Catherine.
Viewing hour for James will be held Monday, March 28, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at West Resthaven Funeral Home (6450 W. Northern Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301). James will be honored and laid to rest the following day Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at 1:00 PM at West Resthaven Funeral Home.
