Jana Pauline Ramey

Jana was born in Kearny, Arizona, on June 22, 1965, to Bonnie and Walt Steininger. After spending her early years in Palmyra, Pennsylvania, where her sister Jill was born, the family returned to Arizona, settling in Snowflake and later Show Low. During her youth, Jana developed a deep love for animals, specifically her Airedale terrier, Midge, and her horse, Al.

After high school, the family moved to Phoenix so Jana could attend Grand Canyon University. It was there that Jana met Robbie, and they were married on March 21, 1987, and began a life defined by her nurturing spirit. Whether she was sewing a prom dress for her sister or caring for our daughters, Emily and Helen, God's calling for Jana’s life was always her home and family.

As our children grew, Jana began working as a teacher's assistant at their elementary school. She extended her care to the community by teaching Sunday school at Hillside Baptist Church for many years and later working in Special Education for the Peoria District. Jana’s calm demeanor and reliability made her a favorite among students and colleagues alike, earning her recognition for her dedicated service.

In recent years, Jana found immense joy in being a grandmother, known affectionately as "Nonnie." She was constantly finding new ways to create a magical environment for her grandchildren. She also cultivated a close-knit community of online friends through Minecraft, where she was known as "MamaBear."

Jana also found joy in cooking, baking, gardening and supporting her daughters every endeavor. Whatever Jana did, whether it was cooking Sunday night family dinners, baking her signature cheesecakes for the youth bake sale or supporting her online community, everyone left happy and satisfied because of the immense amount of love Jana poured into her creations and others.

Jana’s final days were spent pouring her love into her church, as well as sharing tender moments meeting her newborn grandson. She was a woman who deeply loved God, her family, and her community. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 6th, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Hillside Baptist Church, 1344 W. Thunderbird Road, Phoenix, AZ 85023. Dessert and coffee will be served afterward.

Please come as you are, dress comfortably and wear a color other than black. This is what Jana would have wanted.
