

Janis E. Northup-Easterly was lifted by the angels on October 16, 2013 at the age of 64 after a tenacious and valiant battle with cancer. She was born to Floyd and Marcine Harrington on June 25, 1949 in Ottumwa, Iowa where she received all of her early education. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s in Secondary Education from Parson’s College and then received her Master’s degree in School Administration from Truman State College. She received her Ph.D. from Walden University in Education Administration. Jan was a teacher for 8 years in Ottumwa where she helped to develop and implement the curriculum for the first Talented and Gifted program (K-12) in Ottumwa. She was the first Director for the Gifted Education program. Jan was on the adjunct faculty at Bellevue University, and has taught at numerous universities including Thunderbird, The American Graduate School of International Management, and George Washington University.
Dr. Northup, founded Management Training Systems, Inc. in 1980 and was an internationally known author of 4 books, speaker and organizational strategist. She began serving as a confidential advisor, executive coach and strategic and planning consultant to senior-level decision makers in military and government agencies and private and public corporations. In 1988, Jan created of The Promotable Woman: What Makes The Difference video training program that has been featured on the Public Broadcasting Service and has been a featured speaker at numerous regional and national conferences. She was the first woman to conduct a nationwide speaking tour in Australia on women’s management issues. Over one million people worldwide have attended her seminars, training classes and presentations.
Jan was preceded in death by her mother and father and is survived by her husband Don Easterly, Glendale, AZ, her son Josh Alexander of Phoenix, stepchildren Shannon (Tony) Smith and Jan’s grandchildren Joseph, Lyssa, Hunter, of Desert Hills, Kelly (Charles) Sanders and grandchildren CJ, Hope, Madison of Desert Hills, siblings Wayne (Marilyn) Harrington of Lebanon, MO, Jim (Dot) Harrington of Ottumwa, IA, Jayne (Randy) Schweitzer of Hedrick, IA, Dottie (Bruce) Woodard of Ottumwa, IA, 4 nieces, 4 nephews, 6 great nieces and 3 great nephews.
