Querido Profesor Sanders, acabo de saber que ya no está entre nosotros. Seguro que Dios lo tiene en su Gloria. No  puede ser de otro modo.
Nunca olvidaré sus maravillosas clases de inglés en la USF,  fue usted un gran profesor y una excepcional persona.

Dr. Sanders, you may not remember me, but as one of your previous students for ENG102, I am indebted to you. You really were one of the coolest professors I have ever had, and when I was unknowingly struggling with undiagnosed depression - I had been given your advice to worry about only my final, and to even drop the lowest grade I had in my class list. I didn't listen with the latter when I sent that email, but, I tried to make my final a reflection and an example of how you taught your students to write. I'd like to believe your teachings has contributed to my charisma in both speaking and writing today.

This was 3 years ago, however. I hope you are in a better place. You really were, as my generation would say, the GOAT. At least, one of the greatest of all time.

I found out awhile ago about Mr. Sander's passing. It actually broke me deep inside and although I didn't know him personally (He was my GCC professor), he was a down to heart guy and I loved having him as my professor. He was so nice and caring.

One of the best professor I ever got to learn from. It was been an honor, Mr. Sanders. Rest well. <3

Dr. Sanders was my favorite professor so far. I had the pleasure of taking his mythology class last year. Professor Sanders made learning fun. Tonight my husband and I are enjoying a mythology movie I decided to look him up and see if there was any update on Dr.Sanders. 
I am praying for your family. Mr Sanders was a remarkable professor despite never meeting him in person he made virtual learning bearable.

Jim was an amazing colleague and mentor to everyone that knew him at GCC. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.  He certainly will be missed by all.

My condolences to the Sanders family. 🙏

I did not know Dr. Sanders very well but I work in the same faculty offices building on campus where he had his office. I was very saddened and shocked to learn of his passing. He was always so friendly and positive to everyone and I would run into him almost daily passing each other in the hallway-always at the same time each day for years! I will really miss seeing Dr. Sanders and hearing his cheerful greeting. I want to express my deepest condolences to his family. His passing has affected me and I feel a deep loss. He will be very much missed by the entire campus and all of his students and his colleagues. I write this with tears in my eyes. I know that he is in Heaven and in no more pain. God Bless Jim and his family.

I  am Jim Sanders ‘s only daughter . I ha e no words right now but that I Love and Miss my dad very much !!! Until we meet again up in Heaven , may you Rest In Peace , Daddy. I Love you !!! Always your little girl . 🙏😢

Dr. Sanders. I cannot begin to list the ways in which he encouraged me, bolstered me, and made me feel like I could accomplish anything I set my mind to. Without dr. Sanders I can honestly say I never would have graduated from GCC, or set my eyes upon larger prizes.

 I had the pleasure of teaching him guitar for a semester, and the pleasure of him teaching me English the next. He helped me access funds for students in need when I couldnt pay for my classes to graduate from GCC. He tutored me any chance he had in language arts, beyond his class time and office hours. He listened and spoke so directly, you could always feel how sincere he was in all of his endeavors. We ran into each other, at Olive Garden while I was working there part time. You recognized me out of the crowd and made sure to ask how my schooling was going. We talked about your beautiful home, and how we couldnt wait for the next guitar event to come along. The last time I saw you was just before I graduated, at my jobs musical recital. There you shared your wonderful laugh at how amazing it is we continue to see each other. We laughed at how small the world is. His laugh comes up often, because it couldnt help but make you laugh yourself.  Dr. Sanders, to say you will be remembered is an understatement. The legacy of his loving sincere endeavors will be remembered by all he encountered.  Dr. Sanders was one of a kind, more than he would ever let you believe.

As a young student, I had no idea the impact Jim would come to have on my friends in the guitar program as well as me personally. He was always at our performances, always encouraging us if we felt too critical of ourselves and always provided an aura of unending optimism. When I think of Jim, the first thing I see is his jolly smile followed by the sincerest of laughs.

Every conversation I had with Jim was genuine. He had a burning curiosity and passion for learning that was equally matched by his compassion for others. I consider myself lucky that Jim entered my universe the same time I entered the guitar class. Thank you for your words of love and inspiration that will live in my mind forever.

My thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Pat and the Sanders family. May you find strength and comfort in the abundance of love that so many of us have for Jim.


Dr. Sanders was an excellent teacher and a wonderful supporter of the arts at Glendale Community  Colleege. I remember hearing his laugh every morning in our guitar classes together. He was always one of the first to shake our hands and congratulate us on what a good job we did after our concerts. His presence on campus will be deeply missed. 

Jim was one of the most decent, gracious, and generous friends I've had.  His interests and talents were broad.  He could fix anything;  from a mangled sentence to a sagging door frame, Jim was the man.    I will greatly miss his kind advice, his many stories, and easy laughter. 

Jim was an amazing man with such joy and caring. He was a wonderful bible class teacher. He made things come to life with his instruction. He was a family friend to us and our family. We will miss his smile and caring for us. 
Our prayers are with Pat and the family. 
May the Lord give them comfort.

Dr. Jim was a true scholar and gentleman. His intellect, smile, and music will be sorely missed on GCC campus.

Jim was a great person, a treasure --- so thoughtful and competent in so many disciplines. I always looked forward to our brief conversations as we crossed campus. His professionalism, positive attitude and even keel were always welcomed assets, and we at GCC have lost a stellar colleague and human- RIP professor...

Jim was quite simply one of the nicest guys I’ve ever known. He loved everyone, regardless who they were or what their station in life. I knew that every time I passed him in the hall in the 05 building, or to and from classes, I was going to hear the same phrase: “Hey hey…how you doing today?”  He was one of the few people I’ve ever met who truly meant what he said; he genuinely cared how I was doing that day. 
As many have also said, Jim cared deeply about his students, and all of the students at GCC, whether he was their professor or not. I don’t think a week went by, certainly before the pandemic, but even during, that Jim wasn’t constantly asking me “do you need any help in the writing center? Be sure to let me know if you need me.” I have nothing but positive memories of Jim, and I never heard a negative word spoken of him. His loss for many is great and profound. 

Jim was one of the first full time faculty at GCC that welcomed me to the college.  He has a huge array of ideas to use in the classroom, and was always such a nice man to talk to. He will be missed.

Jim was an astounding man. As a student who spent some time in the guitar program, I was always thankful for his presence. He was incredibly pleased with each students success, and steadfast with encouraging comments for all of us. Not many can make a loving comment like Jim, one that just hugs you with its words and sticks with you for the rest of the day. He also brought so much excitement to the class, and I was very much inspired by his ease to find all of the joy in even the smallest spaces. 

Thank you for your amazing presence in the guitar program.

I would see Jim striding across campus with his guitar case,  and always would holler a greeting. He in turn, knowing my proclivity for reading at least a book every day, would always ask what I was reading and listen to two or three sentences as to what the book was about.  He treated me with warmth every time I encountered him, and I will miss his laugh and his kindness a great deal.

I knew Dr Jim Sanders from the guitar program at GCC. Kind and generous are the first words I think of to describe him. He was very welcoming to all new students and he helped us feel comfortable. His smile was infectious and it was always a joy crossing paths with him and sharing in some fun, interesting conversation. He encouraged us to work hard toward our goals while also having fun.

He was a blessing to those lucky enough to have known him. He will truly be missed.

Jim was my friend, my colleague, my mentor, and he would tell you my student. I’ve never met anyone quite like Jim, so incredibly multifaceted, a man of many talents and skills,  highly educated, worldly, yet as down to earth and humble as they come. 

I had the pleasure of spending the last two decades at GCC with him. Jim encouraged me personally and professionally in so many ways, supported so many students inside and outside of the classroom, and somehow always knew just what to say to connect with a complete stranger. He had a way about him, and chops to back it up. 

I have said it so many times, every teacher needs a Jim Sanders to take their class. The sheer number of quick emails he would send me with constant feedback on my classes was overwhelming. Everyone should be so lucky as to have that kind of feedback, from that kind of a person. Genuine, unfiltered, nurturing,  always with a sense of humor and most often with a literary reference. 

Jim always had a smile and a way of lighting up a room. He had stories for days, an encyclopedia of life experiences, and I don’t actually know how many languages he could communicate in but it always seemed like all of them. 

I will miss Jim dearly. His presence in our guitar program was a constant. Generations of students felt his impact and will continue to in their writing, their relationships, and in the way they carry themselves and treat others in the world. It was a joy to teach him, priceless to learn from him, and my life has been enriched from knowing him.  

I am thinking about Miss Pat and the Sanders Family at this time.  I hope you can find strength and courage as you navigate the future, the loss is profound. I know Jim would want the best for everyone, and for all of us to remember the many wonderful memories together and think of him with a smile. 

Read a book and think of Jim, play a song and think of Jim, build something beautiful out of wood and think of Jim.
