Joyce D. Barnett passed away on September 15, 2025, and will forever be remembered by her loving family and friends.
Joyce was born on November 23, 1930 in Butte MT, to John Henry Warren and Alice Montgomery Warren. Joyce was the 3rd of 4 sisters. In 1941 she moved to Kirkland, WA where she was raised by her sister and brother in law after the untimely passing of her parents. Joyce lived in Kirkland for many years, graduating from Lake Washington High School in 1949.
Joyce married and had six children with her first husband. She remained in Kirkland for many years and relocated to Arizona in the early 70s. In 1980 she married the love of her life Mick Barnett. They traveled the world and lived in Saudi Arabia for several years. Upon their return to the United States they relocated to Southern CA., ultimately returning to Phoenix AZ. In 1993.Over the years, Joyce worked in a variety of roles, including car-hop, hair stylist, administrative assistant and secretary. She retired in 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Mick Barnett; her sisters, Mae Sheldon (Richard), Joan Anderson (Joseph), and Renee Spurgeon (Al) and her son, Brian Sanderson.
Joyce is survived by her children: Richard Sanderson (Barbara), Craig Sanderson (Barbara), Linda Abdo (Kenneth), Scott Sanderson (Debbie), and Lisa Terreault (Mark). She was a proud and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who always found joy in her family’s gatherings, laughter, and milestones. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of love through her 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren as well as her beloved nieces and nephew.
Joyce will be remembered for her love of her entire extended family, and those who she graciously accepted as family. She loved, supported and encouraged all of them equally. Her warm sense of humor, and her strong spirit of survival in the roughest of times is something that anyone who met her admired.
She found happiness in the simple things—spending time with family, planning the next great family brunch, sewing with her friends and sharing stories that kept her family connected through generations. She was the glue that kept our family connected and her loss will be felt for generations.
