Our mom, Lois Ann Kitchens began her life in Hudson, Wisconsin, May 25, 1930. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 13th, after a long, wonderful life, spending her final moments surrounded by family.
She was the seventh child of Earl and Lois Wilcox, and their last surviving child. Lois was predeceased by her sisters Mary Bartlett, Vernis McCloud, Dorothy Wilcox, Rene Brahdahl, and Elenor Zezza, and her brother Donald Wilcox.
Fifty years ago, she lost the love of her life – James ‘Red’ Kitchens. They were married for 27 years and are responsible for creating the Kitchens’ crew that now boasts over 97 family members.
She is survived by her children Catherine ‘Kate’ Malloy (Pat), Craig Kitchens (Patti), Deborah Keiser (Paul), Donna Marquez (Juan), Julie Campbell (Frank), and Doug Kitchens. She was a grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother to 63.5 (new great-grand arriving soon) incredibly lucky kids who all loved celebrating at many Christmas Eves, Thanksgivings and Family parties at Grandma Kitchens’ house.
Lois was known for her smile, deep Christian faith, and love of her family. She also enjoyed music, dancing, fishing, card games, jigsaw puzzles, and much more. She loved to sing and was active for over 50 years in her church choir at Maryvale Baptist. In more recent years, she sang in the Bellevue Heights church choir and the Sun City Ladies Chorus, taking part in Christmas and Spring concerts.
Over the last few years, Lois was able to stay in her home because of the loving in-home care she received from her daughters, granddaughters, Felicity, Sarah, and Elizabeth, as well as friends. In March after suffering a stroke, mom was moved into Hospice care. Her family would like to thank the staff members from Hospice of Valley West and at the Golden Age Group Home for their care these last few months.
Lois will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She will be remembered for her joy, optimism, and willingness to help anyone in need. Lois’ family asks that everyone remember her for the joy she brought to others in life, not the sadness of her passing. Her family is certain that she is singing and dancing with all her friends and family in heaven.
A graveside service for the family will be at West Resthaven Cemetery on July 25th.
Please join the family at a visitation service at West Resthaven Funeral Home that evening from 6pm to 8pm. A celebration of life will take place at Bellevue Heights Church in Sun City, on Saturday, July 26th at 10am.
In lieu of flowers and gifts consider a contribution to Hospice of the Valley, Bellevue Heights Church, Phoenix Rescue Mission or a charity of your choice.
