Loy Dwayne McGuire

McGuire, Loy D, 81, passed away on July 16th, 2019 in Sun City, Arizona. Loy was born in Mountain Home, Arkansas, and moved to Arizona with the Air Force in 1960 and was stationed at Luke Air Force Base. After leaving the Air Force, he continued working at Luke for Lockheed Martin for 20 years.

Shortly after moving to Arizona, he met Bertha King and joined her Country Western band as lead guitar player and singer. After two years together, Loy and Bertha married and for the next 40 years their band, The Back Roads Band, played in many places around the Phoenix and Glendale area. After Bertha sadly passed away in 2002, Loy continued playing at Rock Springs Café in Black Canyon City, AZ with Cecil and the Boys for 25 years.

That's where he met his second wife, Roseann Huff, and they were married in 2004. Loy and Roseann formed a new country Western band called Country Fever with three other musicians: Bob Williams, Biff Maursky and Ron Duke. They continued playing until 2012 until Loy, unfortunately, suffered a stroke. Loy and Roseann continued to travel to Arkansas each summer to visit friends and family and to enjoy the music at jam sessions there.

Loy is preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Ruby McGuire, his brothers Verlon and Rex McGuire, his sister Koleta Sanford, his son Allen King Sr., and his son-in-law David Cook.

Loy is survived by his wife Roseann, twin brother Roy(Annis) of Phoenix, AZ and sister Helen Smith (widow of David Smith) of Mountain Home, AR, daughter Anita Cook (widow of David Cook) of Phoenix, AZ and daughter-in-law Sally King (widow of Allen King, Sr.) of Hillman, MI and stepsons Curtis Huff of Sun City, James Huff (Maria) of Rowlett, TX and Bart Huff (Kellie) of Coaldale, CO. Also granddaughters Irene Goldthwaite, Sherri King and Casandra Thorpe, grandsons Allen King, Jr. and Dwayne King and many great-grand-children and great-great-grand-children.

Viewing and interment will be on July 23, 2019 at 9:00 AM. A celebration of Loy's life and memorial service will be held on September 27, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 PM. Both will be held at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Ave, Glendale AZ 85301.
