Mariam, daughter of Sam and Helen Joy, was born in Phoenix on January 9, 1927.
She earned her master’s degree in education from Stanford in 1948. Mariam then taught in several schools and colleges, Chandler HS, ASU, Tucson HS, Glendale HS and Glendale Community College spanning the years from 1948-1996. She coached women’s sports of all kind including several regional titles in women’s field hockey.
Mariam loved trout fishing and spending summers at her Pinetop cabin with her husband Ray (deceased).
She is survived by her two sons Glenn and David, daughters-in-law Joan and Pam McKee, stepson Richard Austin and stepdaughter Susan Stewart, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother Sam Joy Jr. and many, many friends.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, December 11, 2016 from 2pm-5pm at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 W. Northern Ave., Glendale. A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 1pm at Resthaven Park Cemetery (south side); reception to follow.
