From an early age, Mayra proudly displayed her vibrant personality. She was loud and bossy, as her twin sister Erika fondly recalls. Mayra had a unique laugh and a distinct way of speaking that will be deeply missed and never forgotten. She was the family’s record keeper, often reminding everyone of birthdays and special events. She was also the main photographer, never missing an opportunity to capture moments with family and friends, whether flattering or embarrassing, it didn’t matter to her. Mayra was sassy, funny, opinionated, bossy, and frugal, never hesitating to tell someone they paid too much for something. She adored her nieces and nephews, giving extra attention to the babies and treating them all as if they were her own.
Mayra shared a deep bond with Ricardo Lopez, starting at the age of 14. They eventually married on May 23, 2014. Though they later divorced, they were together until the end, exchanging “I love you” and holding hands.
Mayra is survived by the love of her life, Ricardo; her beloved mother, Liliana; and her four cherished children: Anthony, Isabel, Priscilla, and Ricardo. She is also survived by her twin sister, Erika Malding; sister, Giselle Medina-Sprague; brother, Armando Medina; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mayra was a treasured member of Ricardo’s family and is also survived by his mother, Susie, sisters, Susan Lopez and Olivia Brothers, and brother, Frank J. Lopez.
Mayra was preceded in death by her grandmother, Maria Socorro Camarillo Martinez, her great grandmother Antonia Martinez, and Ricardo’s father, Francisco L. Lopez, with whom she will be laid to rest.
Family and friends are invited to a Catholic Mass and Burial Service on Monday, December 16, 2024, at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 13720 W. Thomas Rd., Avondale, beginning at 10:30 AM, followed by a procession to Resthaven Cemetery, 6450 W. Northern Ave., Glendale, for the burial service.
Mayra, I hope you know that you are absolutely loved by all of us. You will be missed and never forgotten. As a sister, you were always there for me and my babies, and for that, I am so incredibly grateful. Your children will always hold you in their hearts and minds, as will all of us. You have carved a space in Ricardo’s heart that can never be filled. Rest, my beautiful sister, and know your children will always be taken care of.
Our last words to each other were, “I love you,” something not everyone can say is possible, but something we always made sure of. And for that I thank you. Thank you for being you—wife, mother, daughter, sister, Tía, Nina, and friend. You will forever be loved.
Your Seester Susan
