

Mel” passed away peacefully at the age of 95 in Goodyear, AZ.on Monday, April 21, 2025. He was born in Glendale, AZ. on June 25, 1929 to William Bryan and Nancy May (Kirkpatrick) Thompson. He was raised on a dairy farm along with his six sisters – driving tractors, trucks and milking cows from a veryyoung age. He married Lynn Richardean Cook on June 28,1947. Together they provided a loving and Godly home for their three children.
After working at several jobs, Mel started his career at Peoria Unified School District in 1952. By 1956, he became the Director of Transportation and he continued in that position until his retirement in June of 1989, serving the district for thirty -seven years.
He will be remembered as a man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. To the end of his life, he was a member at the Glendale Church of Christ, serving as a deacon and elder. His dedication to God, family and hard work served as an inspiration to his family and those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynn, in 2012; and son-in-law Kevin Forgia in 2010. He is survived by his children Bill (Paula) Thompson, Melinda Forgia, Tad (Cathy) Thompson; sisters Bertha Sharp and Martha Strickler; seven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday, May 19 at 10:30 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am at the Chapel of the Chimes, 7924 North 59th Avenue, Glendale, AZ.
