Nancy was my mother's (Rita Ahrensfeld Phelan) cousin and I fondly remember her talking about Nancy. I remember Nancy attending a family event at my cousin Cherie's house where Nancy and my mom were arm wrestling on the living room floor! I was great fun; everyone was laughing and having a great time. (And Nancy won!) It's been many years since I saw Nancy and I have one photo of Nancy that was taken many years ago and this is how I remember her... my thoughts are with you.

My name is Cherie Summersgill.  My dad, Bill Ahrensfeld, and Nancy were cousins.  Throughout most of the 1950s, my parents and I lived in an apartment above Nancy's parents in Illinois.  As a little kid, I was always running up and down the stairs between Aunt Margaret & Uncle Dode's place.  Nancy was a big part of my life back then.  She would show me how to help out with papers for her dad's business which was in the basement.  I was usually the “stapler”.  Sometimes she would visit with my mom and me upstairs – they would have coffee.  Then there were Balls' two dogs – Peter & Blackie.  Nancy and my dad were both born in November.  She loved to say how my dad was a year older than her.

Back in about 2000 or so, my husband and I visited Nancy at her group home.  She instantly remembered me and called my husband Alan even though they had never met before.  We sat on the couch and chatted like time stood still.  That was the last time I saw her. 

My mom and I have spoken often about Nancy over the years – wondering about her.  We're so glad she lived a long life in a safe environment after her parents died.

I remember spending a vacation at Nancy's house in Mt. Home, AR with my parents, Bob and Nadine. My mom was Nancy's cousin.  Nancy laughed and sang while playing the organ. Right around dinner time, we watched for the humming birds fly to their feeders.  Nancy would crochet around coat hangers, I am fortunate to still have one she made. I miss your always smiling face dear Nancy.  Rest in peace now with your Mom and Dad by your side.

Nancy was my mother's cousin. I knew her about 55 years ago when she lived in Illinois. She was always fun and caring. It's been a long time. I'm glad to hear she had someone who loved and cared for her all these years. Now she will be with her parents again. Rest in piece Aunt Margaret, Uncle Dode and Nancy.

Hello-My name is Lenae Stenerodden and Nan & her mom & dad & dog lived next door to us back in the 60's in old Scottsdale, AZ. Nan was always full of life and energy. She loved her dog & I can still see her giving him hugs. She loved our dog, too. My parents were practical, loving, patient and caring people that always welcomed Nan into our home.  It was so precious that I recall her still pin curling my mothers hair & talking about cute boys she had seen(including an older cousin of mine). My father always tried to make jokes with her & I remember her laughing with him. Her parents loved her dearly-we always felt that & I know her mammas prayers were always with her after she left this earth guarding & protecting her from above. I have been able to visit Nan a few times in her group home in Glendale and she always new me, just like it was yesterday. We sang some Christmas songs & hymns together & I brought a puppy by once(which she enjoyed) & just hung out with her at times. I could see her strength waning & my prayers & heart with often with her, even though I couldn't see her as often as I'd like. God Bless You dear Nan! You were a precious Soul on this earth!
