Roger Robert Strohl Jr., affectionately known to many as "Sonny," passed away on December 19, 2025, at the age of 75. Born on April 17, 1950, in Coaldale, Pennsylvania, Roger was the son of the late Roger Strohl Sr. and Frances Snyder. He grew up in Lehighton, PA, with his siblings Donna Strmensky, Kay Shiffert, Ruthann Rittle, Carolyn Graver, and Richard Strohl.
In his youth, Sonny was actively involved in sports, excelling as a wrestler both during high school and college. He graduated from Lehighton Area High School and furthered his education at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and Penn State University.
After earning a degree in education, Sonny moved to Arizona and embarked on a teaching career, where he molded the inquisitive minds of 4th to 6th graders in subjects such as Social Studies, Mathematics, and Track. Later, he transitioned to a rewarding career at the United States Postal Service, dedicating 31 years before retiring. Beyond his professional achievements, he flourished as a storyteller, authoring two captivating books about the adventures of Jake and Duke.
It was during a visit to a grocery store where his destiny led him to meet his beloved wife, Ann. The two shared an enchanted first meeting, eventually leading to marriage less than two years later. Together, they celebrated 47 joyous years and welcomed two children, Eric Strohl and Christy Gurka, into their lives.
Sonny was renowned for his unfaltering humor, warm-hearted generosity, and boundless compassion. Whether as a school teacher, scout master, or the fun parent organizing treks at the local park or adventurous camping expeditions, his amiable nature imbued countless lives with cherished moments.
A passionate sports fan, Penn State football and the New York Yankees fan, he shared unforgettable game days with friends. Off the field, he embraced writing, gardening, puzzling, and was known for his special love for animals, especially his cherished late cat, Harley.
Celebrated for eternally seeing the light amidst the dark times, Sonny carried a patient optimism infectious to all his loved ones. On February 6, 2026, his life will be cherished in a Celebratory and Uplifting Ceremony at the Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary in Glendale, AZ, at 5:00 pm.
Roger leaves behind his devoted wife Ann, cherished children, a grandchild Emalyn, and lasting heartfelt memories with each life he touched. Possessing unparalleled compassion and infinite zest, Sonny's legacy continues to inspire all to live with joy and warmth.
