

Ruben R. Carroll, 91, passed away on January 1st, 2017, after a brief illness. He had been married to his loving wife Rita for 65 years when she passed in 2009. Ruben’s life was spent in loving and devoted service to others. With only a 2nd grade education, he was hired by the City of Glendale as a laborer in 1951. He continued to work for the City for over 32 years and retired in 1983 as the Superintendent of Utilities. Rita and Ruben spent their early married life raising their six children and in their retirement, spent hundreds of hours volunteering at the El Mirage Senior Center. In August of 2005, President and Mrs. George Bush came to the valley to personally present them with the “President’s Call to Service” Award for their work with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. Ruben is survived by his sister, Mary Robledo, sons Joe and Felix (Linda), a daughter, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ruben was loved dearly and will be missed by all that knew him. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 18th, 2017 at 10:00 in the morning at Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 7844 N. 61st Ave., Glendale, AZ.
