Rusty was born May 24, 1957, in Frankfurt, Germany to Captain Russell T. Duncan, US Army, and Hazel Duncan. He lived in Germany, France, Maryland, Kentucky, Texas, Nebraska, and California before moving to Phoenix to attend Apollo High School. It was here that he made his home for the rest of his life—another 51 years.
He loved sports, especially hunting, tennis, and baseball, and he enjoyed playing on work teams both with GenRad and the City of Glendale, from which he retired after a career in the accounting department. He went on to work as a security guard with T.E.A.M. Security for a few years after that.
Rusty was most proud of his three sons, Brandon, Cody, and Austin. He was active in their schools and extra-curricular activities and especially loved going to their games and taking them camping in Northern Arizona. After they went out on their own, Rusty turned to his beloved dogs—over the years, too many to name. His smile, his giggle, his willingness to help anyone who reached out, the way he brought the “silly” anywhere he went—these are the things we will miss the most.
He is predeceased by his father Russell, mother Hazel, and brother Tom. Rusty is survived by his sons Brandon (Ayesha) of Redmond, OR, Cody of Glendale, AZ, and Austin (Shandel) of Waddell, AZ; his grandsons Elliott and Benjamin Duncan of Redmond, OR; his brother Michael (Dorothy) of Greenville, SC; sister Nancy (Conrad) Nelson of Omaha, NE, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
