

Socorro ‘Sokie’ was born, grew up and lived a majority of her life in Glendale, Arizona. Sokie was a beautiful and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,sister, tia, godmother, friend and ‘Comadre’ to so many. She loved her Oakland A’s, Miami Dolphins and hosting get-togethers for family, friends and anyone else who enjoyed having a good time.
Early in life she worked at her family store ‘Almanzas Grocery’ in old Glendale and also worked at various companies gathering lifelong friends along the way. Her most important job was raising her girls and teaching them the most important life lessons - to be independent, strong, hardworking, creative, and living a life of love. Sokie was a wonderful cook and made amazing tamales, green chili and menudo.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ygnacio with whom she shared a lifetime (65 years) of cherished memories, her granddaughter Athena whom she loved dearly and her sons-in-law David Morales and Ernest Sanchez. Her parents were Damaso Romero, Eustolia Romero Almanza and stepfather Guilermo Almanza.
Sokie is survived by her daughters Thelma Vasquez, Vivian (David) Escobar, Yolanda Sanchez and Sylvia Morales. Nana to: Brittany, Nathaniel, David Matthew, Gabriel, AnnaLisa, Maritza, Emilio, Ariana and nine great grandchildren. Sisters: Mary, Vita, Cecilia and Lucy.
She will be truly missed.
