

Steve grew up in Windber where he graduated high school in 1959, then joined the Marine Corps. Steve went through basic training at MCRD Paris Island. He was stationed in the far east where he fell in love with Japan and its culture. He collected Japanese art and mementos.
After his Honorable discharge he joined his parents who had moved to Phoenix, Arizona.
Steve attended ASU while working part time. It was after an ASU football game where he met his future wife, Elizabeth Huish. They were married October 7, 1967, and they were loyal ASU football fans together.
After graduating ASU with his BA, he taught in the Roosevelt School District and several community colleges. He also received his MA at ASU. Steve was also a member of the Joe Arpaio’s posse group of volunteers who helped with law enforcement tasks.
Steve leaves behind his wife Liz, nephew Doug Coughenour, niece Kimberly Schwartz, cousins Richard Kapash, Keith Kapash, (Jordan and Kaveer Kapash), Mike Kapash and his beloved great dane dog Boomer and many friends.
A Visitation will be held at Chapel of the Chimes Mortuary 7924 N. 59th Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301 on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at 10:30 AM followed by a Celebration of Life with Military Honors at 11:00 AM. A Reception will follow the service.
