Born and raised in Long Island City to James A. Gannon and Mary (nee Swayne) on February 3, 1929 he was pre-deceased by his three older siblings, Michael, Mary and John.
He served his country faithfully on the front lines during the Korean War. Upon returning from the war he joined the New York City Police Department and met and married his loving wife Kathleen (nee Gruhn) on October 9, 1954. During his 23 years with the NYPD he attended and received his bachelor’s degree from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He took his degree and became the co-head of Corporate Security for the Revlon Corporation where he served under CEO Michel Bergerac for 10 years. In his last career move he became an investigator for the New York State Attorney General’s Office serving in the medical fraud division finally retiring at age 70.
Jim is survived by his dedicated wife, Kathleen and his three adoring children, daughter Kathleen, daughter Anne, her husband Paul, son, James G. and his wife Kristi. After retiring he turned his full attention to his six grandchildren, Caitlin and her husband Thomas, Ryan, Lacey, Sabrina, Jimmy and Veronica. He never failed to attend and always enjoyed his grandchildren’s endless athletic events, plays, choruses, graduations etc. and reveled in their various accomplishments and always with a kind word and admiration for their efforts which endeared him to all of them and will be greatly missed.
A quiet man who lived rather than spoke about his religion; he attended Mass and received Communion every Sunday right up until his recent illness and even then would watch the Mass on his television. He enjoyed nothing as much as family vacations and holiday gatherings with his family. He was a gentleman who truly was a gentle man and always had a kind word for anyone he met. He loved, was loved in turn and will be sorely missed.

The family would like to thank all for the outpouring of love, sympathy and kind words following Jim’s passing.
