

It is with deep love and sadness that the Strohmeier Family announces the passing of Joseph Anthony Strohmeier, at the age of 91, on March 22, 2026. Joseph was a devoted husband, father, and proud patriot, who lived a life rooted in faith, family, and community.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Joseph carried the spirit of the city with him throughout his life. In 1955, he answered the call to serve his country, beginning a chapter defined by honor, dedication, and unwavering patriotism—values that would remain central to who he was.
He was the beloved and devoted husband of Erna, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and cherished memories. He was a proud and loving father to Stephen and the late Joanne,. A proud grandfather to Jennifer (Taylor) and Stephen, and great-grandfather to Rowan and Madelyn. He was beloved brother to Freddie and Eugene. He cherished every moment he spent with his family and held them at the very center of his world. He took great pride in his role as a father, even coaching his son’s swim and baseball, sharing not only his time but his encouragement and guidance. He had a deep love of history and a profound respect for his country, embodying the spirit of a true patriot in both word and action.
A man of deep faith, he was a devoted Catholic and a longtime member of St. Pancras Church, where he found both community and spiritual strength. His commitment to others extended far beyond the church walls. He was an active and familiar presence in his neighborhood, known for his kindness, wisdom, and steady presence.
Each morning, he could be found at McDonald’s on Myrtle Avenue, where he gathered with friends for coffee and lively discussions—moments filled with laughter, camaraderie, and connection that became a cherished daily tradition.
Among the many memories his family will hold close is their time spent visiting the USS Bennington, a reflection of his enduring pride in service and love of history.
He will be remembered for his steadfast faith, his devotion to family, his service to his country, and the countless lives he touched through simple acts of kindness and friendship.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and integrity that will live on in all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Werst & LaBella Funeral Home, 71-41 Cooper Ave, Glendale, NY 11385, US, on March 30, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pancras Church, 72-22 68th St, New York, NY 11385, US, on March 31, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am.
A Committal Service will be held at St. John Cemetery, 80-01 Metropolitan Ave, New York, NY 11379, US, on March 31, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.
