Marta Agnes Mattia

Marta was born on May 21, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York. A lifetime New Yorker, Marta spent her early adulthood traveling Europe, but chose to settle down in Glendale, NY to raise her 2 daughters; Romana and Adriana (Biedermann).

Marta loved people and entertaining. She was quick with a smile, a big hug, a “smooch” and a helping hand. This was evident in the various jobs she held in the service industry as a waitress and hostess when she was young. It was also evident in her “welcoming” spirit. Her door was always open, and a bounteous meal would be served at a moment’s notice around a table that included much laughter, great conversations, and many songs, along with a great meal.

She especially loved children of all ages and decided to take a job in the New York public school system so that she could make sure she would spend as much time with her “two girls” as possible. Later, in her career, she decided to go back to school to become a Paraprofessional; committing her time to work, one on one, in a Special Education setting. Marta was loved by all her students as well as the faculty at NY PS 91.

Marta is survived, and will always be lovingly remembered by, her 2 daughters, her son-in-law, Andy Biedermann, and her two grandchildren, Max and Kira Biedermann, whom she adored.

In lieu of flowers, it was Marta’s wish that any monetary donations be made in her name to St.Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
