I didn't know him that well but he was our ice cream man.  One night I remember Hannah came over and spent the night and he came by.  He gave us free bubble gum that day.  Kate age 10

He would let us always have special lunch with him.  He would play games with us and he always found a way to make me lose. He always gave me old hard raisins for a reward when he let me win.  We would always check his drawer for candy and one day we actually found a candy cane. I'll miss him.  Hannah age 11

He was a really sweet man, really funny, always used to stick his tongue at me. I really loved him and I miss him.  Lauren Age 7

It is difficult to comprehend that Dave has passed so young after having lived such a full life.  He, more than most, understood the meaning and value of friendship, and I will always be grateful for the great friend he was to me.  It was an honor to work along side him for seven years and to remain his friend after that.  He inspired me by the optimism he showed in the face of life's challenges.  I will always remember his smile and sense of humor.  My thoughts are with Aspen and all his family; may you have peace in this difficult time.

Dave will be dearly missed.  Our students and staff cared so much for him.  He always had time for the kids and posted a mailbox in the hallway if anyone wanted or needed someone to talk to.  He took his own time to personally respond to each letter.  We miss you!

It's comforting to read all the fond memories people are sharing about my brother. I am still feeling the disbelief that he is gone, that someone who was part of my life since the day I was born is no longer with us. He had some profound difficulties to deal with, but he battled them with his characteristic stubborn determination. And despite those challenges Dave knew how to laugh and he enjoyed life. He loved his daughters with sincere devotion, exceeding even his passion for the Cubs. Our childhood with Dave, honestly, wasn't always easy—he teased us mercilessly—but he also showed unexpected moments of deep caring and love. When we were kids he always acted like he hated my cat, but when she died it was Dave who came up with the idea to get me a Siamese kitten, and organized the effort with my siblings to present that kitten to me on Christmas morning. Dave had a big heart. I'm profoundly sad that it let him down way too soon.

Aspen and Ariel,
I am so sorry to hear of your fathers passing.  He was a great friend to me and always had a way of lightening my mood.  Wishing you peace and love in your time of grief.

Strong.
That is how I will remember David.
A strong father to daughters Aspen an Ariel and 
the strong love of Carliss his wife.
A strong, older brother to Jeff, Jan and Steve.
A strong and independent son of George and Shirley.
An intellectual, wonderful and far  too occasional presence in our lives. (@Thanksgivings in Nebraska and summers at Eagle River, Wisconsin)
I will miss our Chicago Bears versus Vikings rivalry and game bets that I usually lost. (Including today...21-13)
Love to Dave and his entire family-

For those of you who will be at Dave's service on Nov 29, I will save most of my comments for that.  For those not able to make it, I simply want to say that I loved my brother very much.  He had his faults, but the overriding factor was he loved his family very much, and had a heart of gold.  I miss him terribly, more each day in fact.  I do know that I will see him again, however, with a big grin on his face, and that keeps me going for now.

To my nieces Aspen and Ariel, and to my sister Carliss, please know that God will be with you to carry you through this trial. When the load of your grief seems too heavy to go another day, God will carry you through. 

I too will remember Dave. I will remember standing with him as he watched the birth of his daughter Aspen. I will remember him trying to hide  tears of joy for the birth of his daughter. I remember him holding Aspen the night she arrived home. She looking at him and him looking back at her. I can still hear him repeating "she's beautiful". I will remember Dave as being witty, giving, and always there when you needed him. I will remember the Davisms, the humorous perspectives he had on everyday situations we sometimes take for granted. I will remember him with thanks and with respect for being a husband to my sister and a great loving and devoted father to my nieces. Rest in peace Dave. I am better for having known you.

To my nieces Aspen and Ariel and to my sister Carliss, know that God is aware of your heavy heart and your sorrow. Remember that joy will come in the morning. For you three were Dave's joy. Weep not over the passing of Dave, instead celebrate, find joy and comfort in the life he shared and gave to you. 

I too will remember Dave.  I will remember his wit, encouragement, giving, and how passionate he could be over that which he believed in. I will remember his authenticity and gift for finding the ironies in life, his Davisms. I don't think Dave ever met a stranger. For he embraced everyone that he encountered along his journey. Rest in peace Dave. We are all better for having known you.

My deepest sympathies go out to Dave's family.  May God's Holy Spirit grant you all Peace during this most difficult time and may it help ease the pain somewhat to know that Dave was loved by so many.  I had the pleasure of many years of friendship with Dave.  We shared so many great memories!  Dave loved the Colorado outdoors and prior to his leg injury, we hiked our share of God's beautiful country here!  Dave also loved sports and we enjoyed going to Colorado Rockies baseball games (where it won't surprise anyone who knew Dave that he would wear his Chicago Cubs jersey regardless of who they were playing!), Guys-Night-Out Nuggets basketball games, and Bronco football games.  He was also a pool and card shark and I never stood a chance playing against him :)  But he always made it fun!  I'll always remember Dave's annual summer BBQs at his house, where he hosted friends and neighbors and a great time was had by all!  Dave had many dear friends who will miss him greatly.  The world was cheated by his early and unexpected passing, but I was cheated less so for having had the pleasure of knowing him so well.  A kind-hearted man, may he rest now in God's Peace...of mind, body, and soul.  I trust God that we will meet again one fine day!  Oh to see the hiking trails in Heaven!  Until then, my dear friend, I'll be missing you.

My Deepest condolences to Steve Binder, and the entire Binder family.  Dave was a friend of mine, and I morn his passing.

My heart is heavy at the passing of a treasured friend, and a loving Father to Aspen and Ariel, Mr. Dave Binder...Dave loved his "girls" so much (that's all he talked about when he visited Chicago and when we spoke on the phone). When my brother Reggie, told me of his passing, my heart dropped with unbelief/grief.  I am so glad we had the opportunity to "see" Dave this past July as he visited (and stayed with our family for a week) Chicago to experience with much anticipation his beloved Cubs. My Dad, Mr Green and Dave were "running" buddies during his entire stay with us (this camaraderie brought both of them unspeakable joy/fun as they "hit" the hot spots, like Chicago Navy Pier, the bars, the boat rides, the Cubs baseball games and etc.)...Dave has such a giving heart, in that he always encouraged the "fab" four, Uncle Reggie, Stephanie, Carliss and I, to come visit Carliss (by train, plane, or bike...he would say do whatever you need to get here, and don't worry about lodging because you have a place to stay since I have lots of rooms in  my house ...snorts...he would always end our conversation with this admonishment of visiting Colorado), he just wanted us to "get together" and enjoy the magic of our fellowship....

Dave was my brother-in law while married to my sister Carliss.  He was both a good father and step father to my nieces Aspen and Ariel.    At family reunions and gatherings his presence was always appreciated. He was considered a member of our family  during and after his marriage to Carliss and he will be greatly missed.  Rest in peace Dave.

The entire family is experiencing a tremendous loss in the unexpected death of our son, brother, brother in law,and father David. He lived an extremely difficult life with Epilepsy for his entire life. It was a heavy cross to bear. He had a fighting spirit and a positive attitude that carried him through life. Our hope is that he is now in a better place and has joined his Mother in Heaven. God bless him.

Despite the fact that our marital relationship had its ups and downs, we were always extremely loyal to one another and we knew we could always depend on one another.

Aspen was your world and I'll do everything in my power to continue to love and care for her as much as you did.  

Please know that your family always had your best interest at heart and know that you were loved.

Carliss Binder

I can't pick only one moment with my dad because most of them I remember are special. What I will remember most about him was his ability to be a good dad. I could count on him for anything. I remember him being at every volleyball game, school conference, or anything else I had going on in my life. He tried his very best to be an active and loving parent. I will remember the love he had for sports, more specifically, the love he had for the Chicago Cubs. He always put me first and I will miss him everyday. I love you, Dad.

I want to share a couple of my favorite memories of Dave.  One day Sonic drinks were delivered to the school and I ended up with an absolutely disgusting flavor. I said " you know I'll give it to Dave, he'll eat or drink anything."  Well he found it disgusting too, so he sees Hannah( my grand daughter) in the hall  and says" Here, you want a sonic drink?" Later I find Hannah drinking it and asked "Where did you get that?"  "Oh Mr. Binder" she says.   He obviously never fed himself enough and when I would make cake or cookies I would bring enough for him.  Almost every week  he would say "Sue, where's the Cake!"  He would harass us to no end.
