

He attended Primary and Secondary schools in New Orleans. The then attended Tulane University and received his Bachelors Degree in Chemistry in 1948. He the went to Iowa State University and attained his Ph.D in Physical Organic Chemistry in 1952. His post-doctoral fellowship was served at Northwestern University under Fred Bordwell in 1953.
George served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1946. He served in both the southwest Pacific and Philippines.
He worked for Rohm & Haas Co. Redstone Arsenal Research Division in Huntsville, Alabama from 1953 - 1956.
He then moved to Colorado and worked at Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado in the following capacities:
Assistant Professor 1956 - 1961
Associate Professor 1961 - 1966
Professor 1966 -1988
Professor Emeritus 1988 -
George was preceded in death by his wife; Euphama Jane Van Tuyl. He is survived by his daughter; Euphama (Eko) Jane (Thomas) DeMars, 3 granddaughters; Euphama Jane (Michael) Martinek, Jacqueline Renee (Eric) Brown, Tiffany Ann (Warren) Crusenberry, and 11 grandchildren; Thomas, Lucas, Esme, Keva, Jozef, Keegan, Vance, Raven, Jade, Damian and Ayden.
He will be greatly missed.
