I will miss my brother.  I loved him - still do.

My condolences to Joe's wife and family, whom I haven't yet met, and to the Herdina family that I hold in high regard.  I'll never forget Joe's interest and passion in music, and the wisdom he shared around the piano.

Maybe that is it.  
It is all about time. 
"Does anybody really know what time it is?"
A song, a visit, a thought, a birth, a death, 
All happen in segments of time.
 
We try to manage time, but we'll never own it. 
And when all is said and done, 
The only thing we have on this earth 
Is a little segment of time. 
And there is no guarantee as to how much we get. 
 
Humans all over this world compete for vanity and pleasure, 
And some just for survival like the animals. 
Still, the end all is ashes like burnt paper bags 
That smear when touched like memories 
When brain cells die while trying to hold on to the past. 
 
And in the end, all is gone. 
Something, perhaps your words, and intent will survive 
And be recycled over and over for others looking for truth 
As we face white sheets and an array of tubes and monitors 
Clinging to life till the beeps fall silent. 
 
All lives matter. A day matters, especially to those who still dream. 
Wishing we had one more day, one more dream, one more moment together.
Wishing I could see you one more time and share your thoughts, 
Round and round till the squirrel cage stops.
And there is no way to bring you back. 
 
And all the mole hills that one makes into mountains, 
Flatten like a line on the hospital oscilloscope. 
All the contention and anguish and fear and pain gone, gone, gone, 
And you are gone and it hurts, you were my hero you know.
Maybe I can go where you are and find you outside time. 

You were a gift given to us, a precious diamond, 
And creative individual far from the madding crowd.

Goodbye, Bro'.  We shared so many laughs and adventures through the years. I will miss our long discussions about music, books, and most of all, history.

  Joe you will be missed. You were such an important part of Patty's and our  lives. Your sense of humor and wit will always be remembered, you will  be in our heart forever.
