He grew up in Shreveport, and at the age of 10, he moved to New Orleans. He attended St. Stanislaus in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, and then Brother Martin in New Orleans.
Upon graduation from high school, he attended LSU in Baton Rouge, where he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and found lifelong friendships. During his sophomore year, he met the love of his life, Carla. Upon graduation from LSU, Brett joined the US Army and was a quartermaster.
On June 21, 2003, he and Carla married and moved to Ft. Riley, KS, where he joined the 101st Forward Support Battalion of the Big Red One Brigade as a 2nd Lieutenant. That September he deployed overseas to Iraq for 13 months. Before leaving Fort Riley, Brett was a captain and later moved to Ft. Lee, where he was an Aide de Camp for the quartermaster general.
Brett loved being in the Army and all of the friendships he made along the way. He chose to leave the military only to be more present with his family. In 2008, Brett joined PepsiCo and moved home to Louisiana. He loved the people he worked with and found true friendships with many of his coworkers.
Brett had a huge passion for the LSU Tigers! Everyone who knew him knew that. One would have actually thought he bled purple and gold. Most importantly, Brett’s love was for his wife, children, and the Lord, Jesus Christ! He could often be found debating politics or the Tigers or spending countless hours talking about faith and God. Brett was a true warrior who fought this battle with grace and dignity.
Brett is survived by his loving wife, Carla, and their two sons, Kyle and Connor, his mother, Barbara, siblings Blake (Shannon) and Randy (Linda), Rhonda Hollifield, and many brothers and sisters-in-law who loved him dearly, along with many nieces and nephews whom he adored. He was preceded in death by his father, David Hamilton Hollifield, and grandparents Elvera and Walter Boughton and Lee and Marie Hollifield.
Services will be held at St John the Evangelist in Prairieville, La. The Divine Mercy Chaplet will be said at 9:30, and visitation to follow until Mass time at noon. Burial will follow at Serenity Oaks in Prairieville, La.
