Charles Buford Chaney

Charles Buford Chaney, a native of Hickory, MS and resident of Gonzales, LA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the age of 84. Charles was a combat veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Charles retired from Kaiser Aluminum as a Power House Operator with 33 years of service. He had a true passion for golf and also enjoyed traveling, bowling, and was a big country music fan. Charles adored spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Charles is survived by his sons, Charles David Chaney and wife, Licia, Gerald Glen Chaney and wife, Susan, Mark Leonard Chaney, Sr. and wife, Carol Ann; sisters, Jane Hodgins, Orbadean Vines and husband, Baudie, Debra Posey; brother, Millard Chaney and wife Larie; grandchildren, Nikki Ford, Jami Fontenot, Ashli Wall, Matt Chaney, Jonathan Chaney, Michael Chaney, Mark Chaney, Jr., Benjamin Chaney, Kayla Jimenez; great-grandchildren, Ory Ford, Oaklee Ford, Jax Fontenot, Lucy Chaney, Bentley Chaney, Hayes Chaney and Sophie Jimenez. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Rita Cockrell Chaney; parents, Leonard Bailey Chaney and Myrtis Gertrude Burks Chaney; granddaughter, Brandi Chaney; brother-in-law, Norford Hodgins; sister-in-law, Doris Chaney. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 28, 2016 at Ourso Funeral Home of Gonzales from 5 pm until 9 pm and will resume on Tuesday, March 29, from 9 am until funeral services at 11 am. Entombment will immediately follow at Hope Haven Garden of Memories Cemetery on Hwy 30 in Gonzales. Matt Chaney, Jonathan Chaney, Michael Chaney, Mark Chaney, Jr., Benjamin Chaney, Neil Ford, Dexter Fontenot, Benjamin Wall, and Nick Jimenez will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to say “Thank You” to the Gonzales Police Dept., Gonzales Fire Dept. and the Crossing Hospice Facility in our time of need.
