On Thursday, August 15th, 2024, Charles ‘Phil’ Normand, 82, passed away of heart issues and cancer at home surrounded by family. He was survived by his wife of over 62 years, Lela Tassin Normand, also 82, his three children, Lisa Gautreau, Neal Normand, and Bradley Normand, their partners, Tommy Lyons, Ginger Normand, and Mark Harris, respectfully. Also, his grandchildren, Tyler Normand (Tiffany,) Erin Sheets (Tanner,) four step grandchildren, Morgan Redmon (Kevin,) Chelsea Trice (Kevin,) Heather McCann (Jake) and Landon Maulden, as well as, his four great grand kids, Emori Rose, Gage Jordan, Charlie Mae (his namesake,) Molly Grace and seven step great grand kids.
Phil was very involved in his local community coaching softball for St Mark’s church, a member of the JC’s, and a Boy Scout Leader. He worked for BASF Chemical for 13 years before co-opening his own business, Sabine Pools, with his wife, Lela, which they managed in partnership for over 30 years. Phil was an avid fisherman, hunter, a fantastic cook (his gumbo and dirty rice will be sorely missed) and a huge fan of LSU sports.
He was born in Sorrento, LA to Charles N Normand and Marie Odess Loupe. At the early age of 7, he looked at Lela while sitting in the family car and told her he would marry her one day. They stayed connected through friends and family over the years and became reacquainted at 20 years old. They married at 21 and began their life together which spanned over six decades. Phil is also survived by his siblings Gloria Sherman of Metairie, Len Normand, Sue Babin and Pat Normand, all of Ascension Parish, and Steve Normand of Florida.
Our family wants to share great appreciation for his caregivers, Betty, Shawna, and Shellie of Private Caregivers. The love, respect, and tenderness shown by these three ladies was truly amazing and helped Phil pass with care and respect. We will forever be grateful.
Phil will be remembered on Tuesday, August 20th at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Visitation for the public will be from 9:30am to 11:00am. Services to begin at 11:00am. He will be laid to rest in Hope Haven Cemetery before being celebrated with a reception at Ourso Funeral Home in Gonzales.
