David R. Dugas, 84, passed away at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital on Monday, March 13, 2017. Mr. Dugas was born in New Orleans and had moved to the Gonzales area after Hurricane Katrina. Although David began his career as a pharmacist, his true passion was antiques. He built a successful business, Le Petit Soldier Shop, which he operated in the New Orleans French Quarter for over 40 years. He developed a loyal worldwide client following over the years, many of whom became dear friends. He was a close friend to local characters from the “Bead Man” to the gentleman on the levee who grew tomatoes and made cherry bounce. His interests were vast. He loved reading, hunting for treasures, growing bonsai trees and telling a good story. He will be sorely missed by many.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Janis Dugas; his daughter, Janie Campbell and husband Michael; his son, David V. Dugas and wife Karla; his granddaughter, Tina Hebert and husband Dr. Ryan Hebert; his brothers, Raymond Dugas and wife Janet, Paul Dugas and wife Janice, Carl Dugas and wife Ann, and his sister, Joan Tilley and husband Lowell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Dugas was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary Dugas.
Mr. Dugas will have a memorial Catholic Mass to be announced at a later date. His wishes were to be cremated and Ourso Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Relatives and friends may leave words of condolences at www.oursofh.com.
