

Ely “Roy” Brooks passed away on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the age of 76. He was a native of Repton, AL, raised in Crestview, FL, and a resident of Geismar, LA. For most of his working life, he was a maintenance supervisor through the Local 198 at Rubicon Chemical. He served in the United States Army as a Sergeant E-5 in the First Air Calvary Division, where he was awarded many medals including a Bronze Star medal, Good Conduct medal, Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service medal, Presidential Union Citation, The Air medal, and The Army Commendation medal. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 8342. He was also a member of the Santa Rosa County Creek Indian Tribe in Florida. He loved cooking, fishing, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his daughters, Michelle Humphrey (Torey) and Alice Farmer; son, Eric Brooks (Olivia); grandchildren, Tyler Brooks, Tifani Addison (Hunter), Easton Humphrey, Evyn Humphrey, and Austen Farmer; sisters, Carol Oliver and Sheila Polk; and brothers, Billy Brooks and Dick Brooks. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lucille Devillier Brooks; parents, Emmett Sr. and Alice Brooks; brothers, Emmett Jr., Buck, and Bobby Brooks; and sisters, Connie Stanford and Helen Acorn. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. till the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Serenity Oaks Memorial Park, 15304 LA-73, Prairieville, LA. A celebration of life reception is to follow at the activity center at St. John the Evangelist Church. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are: Eric Brooks, Tyler Brooks, Torey Humphrey, Easton Humphrey, Billy Brooks, Dick Brooks, Jason King, Ryan Brooks, and Shane Kling. Austen Farmer will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
